“Bad Acoustics”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Two visits to the theater for musical programs have both been disappointing. Sound is not good. Part of the problem was the volume was too much for the size room. Maybe a few more sound tests befor the show would help.

“The Strand on Marietta Square: Delightful and Clever Theatre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

A rollicking version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by the Atlanta Lyric Theatre company just opened, and will play now through the end of June; we were delighted with this loose adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's original. The musical numbers provided an array of musical styles, and the voices were top notch, even the children in the production were exceptionally good. Highlights were Pharoah, sung by an Elvis impersonator, and Joseph's brothers doin' the blues. There's something for everyone in this fun and surprising production, and the audiences ate it up! Speaking of dinner, there is a coupon in the program back cover for a discount at Shillings on the Square, a pub with more upscale dining upstairs. We preferred our dinner at Sugar Cakes (which is a French bakery with excellent small plates and more elegant entrees), also on the square in Historic Marietta, GA, just north of Atlanta. Enjoy!

“A Very Nice Evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Recently we attended a performance of Ragtime by the Lyric Theater at the Strand and really enjoyed it. The Strand is a recently restore theater much in the style of the classic theaters of days gone by. It's a small house with a balcony, a small orchestra pit and a 24 foot wide stage to perform on. This is a challenge for theater companies to fit scenic and players in such a small space but the Lyric did a fine job of it. The Strand also plays movies from time to time and has an in-house pipe organ for singalongs before some of their events. All in all an entertaining venue to visit. Check it out!

“A Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Have been a patron of this "Gem" of Marietta Square since it reopened four or so years ago. Have had the opportunity to see great old films shown there, from the silents, which is an awesome experience hearing Ron Carter play the pipe organ, to "Rocky Horror Picture Show". Also had the opportunity to see a couple of great bands and live shows such as "Las Vegas Review" and my favorite, "Motown" on 4th of July. Have also enjoyed a number of Atlanta Lyric Theatre's many shows there - "Sound of Music", "Anything Goes", "Will Rogers Follies", etc . The theatre overall is just lovely and the staff is terrific. Marietta is very fortunate for this old theatre to have been saved from the wrecking ball and restored to wonderfully. Nothing can beat having dinner at one of Marietta Square's restaurant and then strolling over to "The Strand" to enjoy one of the many events.

“Great place for a wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Although it is a small space upstairs for a wedding, what a unique idea. The rooftop overlooks the park and the square, which gives you a feeling of superiority...The rooms are cozy and you can decorate as you please. An elevator makes it convinient for those who would need it.
