“WOW What a vacation package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

This is by far the most unique and satisfying vacation pkg I have experienced. DO NOT THINK OF THE MOVIE "CITY SLICKERS" WHEN YOU THINK OF THIS PLACE. This is Southern Hospitality at its finest. From the stately "Mansion" we slept in, the Charleston Suite, to the beautiful, well mannered, and trained horses we rode, the Southern Cross Ranch is 5 star plus. Even if you just go for the accomadations/meals and take no horse ride, this is the place for total relaxation. The dining is without equal. The menu, while leaning toward the southern palate we hear about and love so much, offers a full assortment of entrees to satsify even the most selective tastes, even the young ones. EVERY meal offers at least 2/3 main meat/protein dishes, several veggies, starches, and the desserts.... just prepare to loosen your belt at least 1 or 2 notches during your stay. The kitchen is open 24/7 for coffee/sodas/snacks. (The chocolate cookies are homemade)...and will put your gramdas cookies to shame. EVERYTHING is included in your package. One note: Alcohol is NOT provided/offered. You may BYOB however, which is perfectly acceptable. There are no addtl charges, except for the gift shop. NO HIDDEN USER FEES. There are several packages to choose from, or you can simpily go for the day to ride a horse. Whatever your level of horsemanship, whatever level of southern comfort you require, the folks at the SCR will cater to your specific needs. I guarantee it.

Room Tip: Rooms are priced according to the included items. DVD, Direct tv, fireplace, whirlpool, etc. The m...

This place is a bit hard to find and that might be really good. We live 30 miles away and have not heard about it for 2 years (since we moved here). We were told that we have to go and just try to home cooked food prepared by the owner Inge. I am from Germany (as is Inge) and we went on a Sunday for lunch (to eat Schnitzel) and it was truly superb. We also received a nice tour through the guest house and saw the very nice rooms. We immediately decided that we will be back ASAP as this is really a phenomal place where everything is amazing. There is only a very small minority of enterprises which get a 5 star review at Tripadvisor and this is one of the very few, and 100% deserved. Hats off to Inge and her whole team. If you are in the greater GA or wherever you are , you should seriously consider staying and eating here!!!

I found this ranch on the Internet because my husband and I enjoy riding when we travel. instead of one expensive ride, we thought we'd like more opportunities to ride.
I was a bit wary, but the reviews on trip advisor convinced me it would be a great part of our summer vacation. They couldn't have been more true!
We were able to upgrade to the Cattle Baron room...huge space, fireplace, comfy sitting area, fabulous bathroom in a spotlessly clean, lovely guest house with pool, hot tub, several common areas to sit around and enjoy the company of the other guests. 3 daily meals are included for most plans, served in a common dining room. Food was great every day and the company even better. There were great baked goods daily...the only thing missing was ice cream. The staff is amazing...from the front desk to the kitchen, to the barn...Inge, the owner, is at every meal at her table!
The riding was great as well. So far, we have ridden 5 times and we are here two more days. The guides are helpful and friendly, and there are plenty of wooded trails to explore.
One suggestion to the staff would be to have nightly events planned. It would add to the enjoyment of eating and riding with the other guests.
We are having a great time!!

Room Tip: The Cattle Baron room was amazing, but pricey. category 1 rooms are smaller and in less desirable l...

We spent 5 nights at the ranch in the Cattle Baron room. This was one of their "category 5" (highest) rooms and it was well worth the money. It was extremely spacious and comfortable. There is a little balcony on that floor that we "claimed" and so enjoyed spending time sitting out there in the evenings. The food was terrific and plentiful. The staff, from the office to the barn to the kitchen were all exceptionally pleasant, helpful and kind (Lupe is such a sweetie!). This was our honeymoon and we wanted something active without being constantly on the go and this choice was perfect We thoroughly enjoyed the horseback riding and loved cooling off around the pool. The horses are well-kept and well-cared for. The barn staff are kind, patient and knowledgeable. We had both done some riding but are far from expert. We found the horses responsive and great fun to ride. We enjoyed being part of caring for them. They had 27 babies and it was such a pleasure to walk out into the pastures in the evening with carrots to feed the adults and pet the babies. They are so sweet! The staff invites you to visit with the horses, bring them treats like carrots, etc.

I have no complaints about Southern Cross. They even have some of the nicest dogs and cats that I have ever met! We visited the nearby town of Madison one evening but really were quite happy to spend time just at the ranch. It was restful and a real change of pace. They offer many activities (we played pool one night) so we could choose how much - or how little - we wanted to do. We took advantage of every riding opportunity and never turned on our TV once.

Room Tip: The cat 5 rooms have two-person hot tubs which we put to good use. Our room was huge. We peeked in...

An excellent family trip... It was well worth the eight hour trip. no experience with horses was needed either... the ranch is beautiful and the food was good... the horses and trails were amazing... we relaxed in the evenings feeding the ducks, walking among the horses in the pastures and playing games in the game room... it was perfect family bonding time. would love to go back as soon as we can.

Our family came to celebrate our 9 year old daughter's birthday. She had been asking to go horse back riding for months and we never managed to coordinate. We spent the weekend at Southern Cross riding, eating and enjoying the horses. This ranch is fabulous! You get to help care for the horse you are riding, walk in the pastures with horses running free, eat fabulous food and hang out with the nicest staff anywhere. We're planning our next visit!

I took my daughter (along with my mom and younger daughter) to Southern Cross Ranch to celebrate her 13th birthday. Southern Cross was amazing. The staff, the food, the accommodations, the horses are all outstanding. We are all beginner horse riders and that was not a problem at all. They found a horse to accommodate each of us (even my mom who has never ridden before). My daughters and I stayed in a Category 5 bedroom and my mom stayed in a Category 1 right across the hall. The Category 5 room was HUGE, had a beautiful fireplace and a huge bathroom. It was plenty big for my daughters and I. The food at Southern Cross is absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to bring my husband back.
