“Fantastic....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Our family stayed here because we were attending a wedding in Wallingford.
We had two rooms that were conjoined by a quirky way of closing a door on the landing (very cleverly done and perfect)
The rooms were absolutely fantastic. I've seen a lot worse in top hotels. Lots of thought has been put into this place. The facilities were great and the beds were so so comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious with varied choice and the hosts were so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. As we have friends living locally we would definitely come back to Little Gables and would recommend it to anyone else.

After staying at seven budget hotels or BnBs in nine days during a tour, arriving somewhere like Little Gables went a significant way to restoring my faith in the accommodation business.

An old building, the interior has been very well adapted, and the double ensuite room we were given was bright, very well equipped (TV, bath sheet towels, plenty of sockets, tea/coffee etc., also a minibar with honesty box). The decor was well designed, striking and indeed very welcome after nearly two weeks of hotels offering fading magnolia wallpaper and scruffy carpets. The little extra touches - magazines in the room, safety pins and mending stuff in a drawer if needed, wall mounted cabinet for tea and coffee, co-ordinated colour scheme (purple and green) made for an experience to be enjoyed rather than endured.

The bed was a standard double, very comfortable with good quality duvet and plenty of pillows - I had the best night's sleep I had had for a week at least.

At their published rates (£80 for a double including breakfast) this represents excellent value for money. Indeed, once I saw the breakfast and other guests enjoying all of the hospitality offered, I am inclined to wonder how the business can be making a profit at all!

Breakfast was excellent - cereal, fruit juice, toast (the toaster operated by guests) and cooked options. The breakfast room was a little cramped - when we were there there was a party of eight in other rooms, and although the food was served promptly it was a bit of a challenge getting round the room to get to the cereal, fruit juice and toaster.

Location is a bit of an issue - they are over a mile from the centre of Wallingford. There is a small shop, Thai restaurant and The Bell pub within half a mile but for many things a journey into Wallingford is necessary. They do, however, have plenty of parking for guests. We ate at The Bell, typical pub fare but at very reasonable prices.

Also sound insulation was a bit of an issue - the hallway at Little Gables has a polished floor (rather than carpet) and comings and goings of other guests are quite audible. The loo was a saniflow - again a source of noise - and a minor irritation was that the designer bedside lamps were a little top heavy, falling over at the slightest opportunity.

If I were to be in the area again I would definitely consider staying at Little Gables; the only significant thing that lets it down is its location.

My husband and I stayed here because we were attending a wedding in Wallingford and it was perfect. You can tell there has been a lot of thought put into the decor and there are all kinds of lovely small touches - the shortbread was exceptional and very much appreciated! The beds were cozy and the sheets and duvets were so soft and lovely. The shower had a strong flow and was as warm/hot as we wanted. We didn't mind the Saniflo in the bathroom...we were worried that the other guests might hear ours but we didn't hear anyone else's so we figured that no one could hear ours either! There was a large choice for breakfast and the it was absolutely delicious. Our hosts were welcoming and gracious and we would definitely come back to Little Gables again.

Stayed at Little Gables - great B&B. Lovely room - all the amenities you could want. Breakfast very good. Hosts very welcoming and friendly. We wanted a base to go and do other things and Little Gables provided everything we required. The bedroom obviously had great thought put into it - it had everything you could want - coffee facilties, bath robes, hair drier, mini-bar (in corridor shared with all 4 rooms), en suite, flat screen TV, clock radio with i-pod dock.

Loving Oxford, but not wanting to stay in the city, I was looking for a nice place a little bit more in the countryside. I found Little Gables and it was/is the perfect place!

Set in lovely Wallingford and by bus only 20 minutes from Oxford. Very comfortable and clean room, lovingly decorated with much attention to detail - free tea and cake on arrival - free internet - flat screen TV - brand new bathroom - and an amazing breakfast! Freshly cooked and delicious, with a wide range of meals, fruit, yoghurt and preserves to choose from ... what more can you wish for? The staff was also extremely helpful with luggage and recommendations for the area.

Little Gables turned out to be a very lucky find - I will definitely stay there again during my next visit to Oxford!

My wife and I have just been guests at the Little Gables bed and breakfast house near Wallingford in Oxfordshire where the hosts made us most welcome. When we arrived we were shown into their office were there was a most welcome roaring log fire, just the thing for a cold Novemeber night. The accomodation was excellent, Carol and Martin were most attentive and offered us an extensive menu for breakfast. The room was comfortable and very clean. We were also offered avice on the best place to have a meal and a drink.
The breakfast was as you would expect from such a nice couple, excellent. I would certainly recommend Little gables to anyone wanting a Bed and Breakfast stay in this part of Oxfordshire.

Whilst I cannot fault the B & B for cleanliness and the lovely breakfast, I do feel that people should be put first. 2 days before we were due to go I was feeling very poorly,we tried to cancel, but were told that we would have to pay the £240 as it was a few hours less than the 48 hours notice they required. As pensioners we can't afford to waste money and I thought I would be better next day, we went and I felt so ill at times with non-stop coughing. We asked if we could leave a day early to go home and were told yes but we would have to pay for the night we wouldn't be having. Now I have seen the doctor, I have been told I have Whooping Cough!Whilst I appreciate this is a business,a little compassion and understanding would have been nice.

Room Tip: The Double room is quite small with a Saniflo toilet which was very noisy and could be heard by the...

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay despite your whooping cough!
I'm afraid that as a small hotel, every room is very valuable to us, and because of this, we have a 48 hour cancellation policy.
We are frequently full and therefore to cancel your room outside the 48 hour policy would have left the whole hotel only 75% occupied. Larger hotels do not have this problem, as one room is a much lower percentage of the the whole hotel's occupancy.
We do make this policy clear to our guests both on the phone and via email and our websites. If guests are worried about cancelling later that 48 hours before check in, we recommend travel insurance to cover this risk.
We have researched cancellation policies and found that many rooms are completely non-refundable, and we therefore choose a 48 hour policy to try to take into consideration illness and give guests more flexibility.
As you enjoyed your stay, we do hope that you will visit us again when you are felling better!
Many thanks
