“Sweet Georgia Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

This is definitely a unique property and a great place to meet new people who share a love of fine cuisine and rustic elegance. The spa massage options were a plus and surprisingly good. It rained the entire time we were there but we couldn't have been happier visiting a nearby winery and sitting by the fire! Luckily the sun came out in time for us to take a hike up to the water falls near by. If you are ever in Atlanta take a drive north to this historic lodge - it is absolutely worth the trip.

It seems that the best thing to do while it's raining is to have a great massage and a nice glass of wine! We are happy that the gloomy weather didn't spoil your trip, and we are always grateful for such kind words. We are so appreciative of all of our guests and love to help them have an amazing experience at such a unique and wonderful vacation destination. Thank you again for taking the time to review Lake Rabun Hotel and we look forward to having you as our guest in the future!

My wife and I did a quick one night anniversary stay at LRH and the experience was fantastic! Having a December anniversary, we always enjoy the beauty of Christmas decorations, and they certainly were beautiful at LRH. Our dinner was perhaps the best meal we have ever enjoyed- she had the scallops and I had the steak, both excellent. After dinner we relaxed on the cozy deck with Chloe the cat, a gentle rain on the tin roof and the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree. The room was comfy, and the fireplace just right. We loved bing able to slip out of the room and grab a cup of coffee from the sideboard in the upper hallway. The furnishings are georgeous, and you really feel as though you have traveled far away to some remote lodge.

For breakfast, we were greeted by an overly ample plate of eggs, bacon, biscuit and sausage gravy, with a fresh fruit parfait that was out of this world. Jenna, our server was attentive and pleasant, and we enjoyed talking with her. You can't go wrong by booking here.

I think the word "hotel" is a bit misleading, as the establishment is actually a beautifully renovated old house with shared common areas and a restaurant downstairs. Also, from looking at the picture, you would think it's in the middle of the woods, but actually there are a number of other houses and buildings right around it. We stayed in the cabin adjacent to the property and rented both halves of it, which I was very glad to do, because it would have been very strange sharing the porch with another random couple. Also one side of the cabin controls the heat and A/C and the other half has no control of it, so if you just rent one half, be sure to get the side with the kitchen and fireplace. The bathrooms were really cool--rock wall showers and funky sinks--and the decor was very fun, lots of old antiques and quirky knickknacks. The best part of the whole place was the RESTAURANT!!! Oh my goodness, but was it delish!! And it was affordable too! You pay a 3-star price for a 5-star meal. Every thing we put in our mouths was fantastic. The included breakfast was also divine, if a little heavy--you don't get to choose what you order, they just bring out what the cook felt like making that day. The restaurant can accommodate vegan and gluten-free requests if you tell them in advance, though. The free tea and cookies were nice for snacks, as there wasn't a convenience store or grocery store anywhere near. The hotel does not allow kids under 10, which is smart, because of the shared common areas and design of the hotel. We liked the hotel but be warned if you stay on a Saturday night--there is an open-air wedding venue right across the street which plays music until 11:00 pm. Normally this kind of thing drives me crazy, but we actually had fun listening to the music on our balcony; however, I wish they would have cut it off at 10 instead of 11. I guess the main thing I had to get over was I had in my head that it would be a mountain cabin type experience but it was more of a high-density lake living experience than I was expecting. It was nice and fun, but pricey for what you get. So overall, I liked it but there is some improvement to be made, except for in the kitchen, which gets a perfect 10!

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to noise, or don't like seeing and hearing other people, stay in the cabin...

The Lake Rabun Hotel is like no other.. When you first arrive, you know you are somewhere very, very special. Upon entering, you are welcomed with the sound of a waterfall and a big fuzzy yellow cat named Chloe peering down at you from the balcony above. We loved the welcoming foyer complete with a piano and a warm, inviting fire. The service at this hotel is outstanding. I can not remember the last time I received a tour upon check in. We stayed one night in the fireplace room and had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. The hotel food and service was top notch. Everyone that works here gives 10% to their guests, especially the manager. I have never seen someone who cares about an establishment and it's guests as much as she does. I had read that the rooms were fairly noisy and yes, that was true in the early hours. You could hear guests in the restaurant and bar up until about 11pm. The ngiht we stayed, we heard a group celebrating a birthday and I must admit, hearing others enjoying themselves and singing happy birthday to a loved one only added to the unique experience of this special little place. We will definitely be back! We fell in love with Lake Rabun and it's hotel at first sight. Love it!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are small compared to other "hotels" but that is part of the charm. We c...

My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing and comfortable three night stay at the Lake Rabun Hotel (which an earlier comment aptly described as a high end B&B instead of a hotel).

One of the fringe benefits of such a small, intimate lodging is the opportunity to meet and get to know other guests. (This is greatly facilitated by the comfortable leather chairs in front of the cozy fire in the lounge.) It was also rewarding to get to know the friendly and helpful staff who were always cheerful and accommodating.

We particularly appreciated the warm greeting Jenna Tucker extended each morning when we came down for the delicious and sumptuous breakfasts. (Her gracious and outgoing personality is evident in the thoughtful responses she adds to these reviews.)

We enjoyed the contrast with our stay more than 25 years ago when the much more rustic rooms had shared baths and lacked the other upgrades which now add considerably to the enhanced upgraded experience.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Honestly, the best part of everyone's job here at the hotel is getting to know all of our guests personally. We love being able to give everyone the experience that they deserve while they are on vacation; whether that vacation is for over a week or only overnight. I thank you again for the glowing review and cannot wait to have you and your wife back as our guests.

Lovely recently renovated historic hotel. First night was great with superior breakfast in am. Spent day hiking and returned late to find there had been no maid service performed. Had used towel the night before to dry floor from the inevitable water that leaked around the curtain ( I wish all hotel showers had doors!!!). No management on site and no towels to be found although I checked everywhere. When I mentioned it to management in the morning, her response was "I apologize, that usually doesn't happen". That didn't seem like the right response to me. This one issue put a damper on an otherwise pleasant stay.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper you might want to choose elsewhere as this hotel was built over 100 yrs a...

We took our French visitors to the Lake Rabun Hotel and all four of us loved the hotel, the atmosphere, the food, the friendly service, everything. I had visited the hotel about 10 years ago before it was renovated and can't believe how well it turned out. It's 1920's charm with every convenience. On the other hand, if you're looking for giant rooms, a flat screen TV and baths with whirlpool tubs this is not your place.

Room Tip: The two best rooms are the Andreae Room and the Garden Room
