“wonderful home to tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

The Hills and Dales Estate is a fantastic home to explore. They provide a docent to explain the history of the home and the gardens surrounding it. This magnificent home is all the more impressive when one learns it has been in the family since the early 20 century with many of the original furnishings still intact. The home cost $120,000 in 1912 which is truly awesome. The gardens surrounding the home are well worth the time to tour.

“Beautiful beyond words!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

This estate is so beautiful and well maintained. For the price of admission you get to tour the 32 room estate as well as the sprawling grounds. The house is lovely and gives you a glimpse of what life was like back then. The gardens are so peaceful and you'll be amazed at the boxwoods. Sit a while on the many benches available and just enjoy the sounds and fragrant smells of nature.

“Allow two hours to tour the home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

On a large site near downtown Lagrange, this home evokes the Downton Abbey era. We arrived one hour before closing and were told that this was not enough time to tour the home. (The Website said nothing about how much time to allow.) So we took the lower-priced option to tour the gardens only, and we were fortunate to strike up a conversation with one of the horticulturists, who directed us to some of the oldest trees on site and told numerous stories as we walked. I couldn't tell if the garden tours were normally guided, but this added greatly to our enjoyment. We were advised that the gardens are of interest year-round due to the different cycles of trees and plants blooming. We'll return another time for the home tour.

“Worth the visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Enjoyed the tour of all three floors of the home. Great guide. Very knowledgable. Fascinating to see all the conveniences available in 1916. Enjoyed seeing the furnishings and a lived in actually used family home of thismagnitude. Though large was not intimadating. The grounds are well maintained and restored. The Callaway family gave back greatly to the community. Grateful for the opportunity to visit the home and learn more about the family.

I have always admired the Callaway family. Touring their beautiful home gave me an even grater appreciation for this family. I was a great introduction for our visit to Callaway Gardens.
