“Historic & Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

This property is beautiful! We stayed two nights as part of a Southern Coastal tour. All of our companions had unique rooms. It all depends on the the building you're in. We had breakfast each AM in the grand dining room- it was wonderful! There was lots to see and do. I would definitely come back again.

We visit the Club Hotel's Bar and enjoy the Happy hour meet and greet on Thursdays. The staff is friendly and service is excellent. Half price drinks and finger food are the best.
We like the atmosphere of the old hotel, the grounds are immaculate, interior of the club is very nice. We have enjoyed the Saturday breakfast buffet in the dining room. The best deal on the island for a very nice breakfast.
They have an excellent Sunday Brunch that is full service and Mimosas!
Sorry we have never stayed in the hotel rooms so we can't comment on the over night stays. We are residents on the Island.

Room Tip: Can't comment on staying here as we visit for Breakfast , Lunch and happy hour.

The setting is a beautiful historic hotel and the grounds are lovely with walking and bike riding trails throughout but the beds and the rooms could be updated. The bed was very uncomfortable and unfortunately many of the staff were not very friendly.

One can feel like the pampered millionaires that first had the Jekyll Island Club created for their own vacations. The hotel has the feel of the Del Coronado Hotel in San Diego as it was built during the same period. The rooms in the hotel are individually decorated and with fully up-to-date amenities. The Grand Dining Room has to be experienced for at least one dinner. Roam the grounds to get a sense of the beauty of this lovely island setting and the unique shops in old cottages. I would stay there again in a heart beat.

Know at the outset that this is a historic property and the room and amenities are not up to the most modern standards. That said, there is a grace and hospitality to this operation that is exceptional. We had a drink in the bar adjacent to the dining room that was one of the best we have ever encountered. The hot, sweet and spicy martini captivated the wives in our group who are not martini tolerant unless they tend to the Cosmo side of the menu. We enjoyed an Easter brunch that was truly exceptional. Wonderful seafood and a terrific pastry selection, all impeccably served. And there was no alcohol during our sitting on a Sunday (blue law) and the brunch still sparkled. Sitting on the veranda in the evening on their rockers is a marvelous experience.

The staff is very capable and attentive and the outbuildings on the property were interesting as well. This property is a great introduction to the "Low Country" of coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Don't stay here if you require the Marriott or the Ritz Carlton in terms of modernity. Do stay and appreciate a gracious experience that is redolent of the historic past.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the original wing. Ask about the Presidential suite for a unique experience.

The grounds are beautiful but you are dealing with VERY old buildings, etc> we stayed in the Sans Souci building and even though it was great having a small balcony with chairs the door out to the balcony was so old and "stuck" so badly that we literally had to jerk and pull and slam to open and close it....seems like they could do something about that since you are not only paying a room fee but a "resort fee", a "hotel tax" a "preservation" fee etc. Our biggest dissapointment was that we actually chose this hotel over others because they SAY they have a heated pool. It was FREEZING and neither of us could get in it. We thought maybe the heater was broken? But a club member who goes to the pool all the time said "no, its always like this and we all wish they would really heat it where one could comfortably swim. it almost seems like false advertising to us..... it just seems when you are paying ALOT of money for this fancy high star resort they could afford to fix old doors (we also made the mistake of opening our window and it stuck and we had to call maintenace guy to come and close it) and windows, etc. and either don't advertise a heated pool or just go ahead and actually heat it!! also, at these exorbitant prices couldn't they afford a tiny fridge and small microwave like almost all hotels do now??

Room Tip: Bring a cooler if you want to bring your own drinks etc. and insect repellant because the gnats, mos...

My wife planned an overnight stay for 16 people at the beautiful Jekyll Island Club Hotel and it could not have been any better thanks to the excellent staff who helped her make this a glorious getaway for the Palmetto Dunes "Peddle Pushers."
A leisure bike ride around the northern end of the island past the famous Driftwood Beach and Horton House ruins started our stay followed by lunch at the lovely Courtyard at Crane. Then we took the tram tour around the historic area which stopped at two of the millionaires impressive "cottages." The tour guide was knowledgable and exuberant. Late afternoon found us enjoying cocktails on the boat of friends who were visiting the island.
Dinner in the magnificent Grand Dining Room of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel was reminiscent of the days that the millionaires dined there. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable.
We slept in the same stately rooms in the Sans Souci building where millionaries such as Rockefeller and JP Morgan resided.
The next day brought us back to the Grand Dining Room for breakfast followed by golf for the guys at the Pine Lakes golf course while the woman went sightseeing on their bikes around the southern end of the island followed by lunch at Fins on the Beach. The afternoon was rounded out with a visit to the intriguing Sea Turtle Center.
Walking in the footsteps of such historic figures on the serene and beautiful grounds was the experience of a lifetime.
Highly recommended. Truly a heavenly experience. We will be back without a doubt!

Room Tip: All rooms are top shelf.
