“Pleasant stroll through Jekyll Island history”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Easy stroll beside the road. Some ruins on both sides. A few grave markers. Markers explain what the buildings were who built them and who lived there. What they leave out is that one of the original island settlers was also a notorious and cruel slave smuggler at a time when slavery was not allowed in Georgia.

“Lots of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We rode our bikes to the Horton House. Lots of information to read about the house and former owners. Good place to take photos.

“Great for history fans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

As someone said, the ruins are not that extensive, but I would definitely go see them if you're already on the island. They are free, and it's a 10 minute drive MAYBE from anywhere on the island.

“a piece of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

It is amazing that a structure that old (approx 300 y.o) is still standing. Some of the wall has crumbled away exposing seashells as part of the building material. Even our 9 year old son enjoyed this. Definitely worth stopping to see...and its free!
