“great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Enjoyed this hotel. Very clean. Very well decorated. Quiet and comfortable. Complimentary breakfast was great addition. Beach access was great. Enjoyed the feeling of seclusion on the beach instead of all the crowds. Will definitely be back.

This is quite a different Hampton Inn. It has its own unique feel and a very good quiet location on Jekyll Island. The rooms are large with a sitting area and they have a microwave and refrigerator in the room. Very convenient.. The front desk staff is very helpful. Our room rate was very reasonable. (We were there in the off-season.) I'd be happy to give this hotel five stars except for the fact that guests' dogs kept us awake one night and woke us up the next morning. Making sure that guests can sleep should be the prime goal of any hotel.

To know before you go:

This hotel is on the beach, but there is no view of the beach. There’s a nice little boardwalk in back of the hotel that goes through the dunes and trees and leads right to the beach. We enjoyed this walk each morning. (There are quite a few steps up to the boardwalk.) You can take long walks in either direction on the beach.

The buffet breakfasts are served in a very pleasant area of the hotel and are better than the usual free breakfasts. The breakfast room can get quite crowded at times, so you might want to try to pick off-times to be there.

When we were there, there was an evening happy hour Monday-Friday with reasonably priced drinks and food.

In choosing a room, I’d ask for one away from the fire pit in back where groups gather in the evening. It can get quite noisy.

Dog lovers traveling with their pets will really like this hotel. We saw many owners with their dogs in the elevators, so I guess that the rooms which can include pets are on more floors than just the first one.

We booked a Queen Double Studio Suite with pool view. I was pleasantly surprised you weren't just paying for a pool view, but also a deck with 2 chairs to relax in while taking in the action at the pool. Their is also an outdoor gas fire pit with comfortable circular seating. You have access to food and drinks (full bar) from the pool deck or inside. Don't forget to check on the specials for Happy Hour from 5-7 M-F. The beach access along the walk way is definitely worth the time. The live oaks are awesome. The beach is away from the houses and public access further down the way, so there is plenty of space to spread out. The room had plenty of space. There was a pull out sleeper sofa microwave and fridge (they intentionally set them warmer to save electricity, so make sure to turn it to a cooler setting when you check-in). The staff is fantastic!! Can't say enough about how helpful they were and the cleanliness of the facility. Didn't use the free transportation, but definitely an awesome perk!

The Driftwood beach at the other end of the island is a must see. You might want to look for alternatives for dinner with limited options available on the island. We saw a lot of people getting pizza and decided on Red Bug (very average). I would recommend going off the island to Southern Soul BBQ on St. Simon.

My wife and I were traveling on the motorcycle up I-95 from Okeechobee, FL back to Siler City, NC. We stopped in for a one night stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Jekyll Island. This was such a great choice: Beautiful hotel location, excellent staff with free transportation to anywhere on the island, spacious clean room, free WiFi, refrigerator and microwave, superb informative service at the front desk, a beautiful pool with a lot of decking and a pool bar, a huge winding deck walkway from the pool area through the pristine forest and sand dunes to the ocean. Oh mercy, I would love to go back and spend a couple of weeks at this superb hotel on beautiful Jekyll Island.

The staff at this property truly made our stay top notch. Vance was wonderful -- full of suggestions of places to go, things to do, and very personable. We'd see his face at the bar area in the evenings and working breakfast in the mornings and he was always personable, pleasant, helpful, and truly made for a fun experience! There was also a young lady that worked the Front Desk while we stayed who deserves high praise. The shuttle service was a great perk, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. While you can't really see the ocean from the hotel, it's all of a 30 second walk through some trees and across a wonderful boardwalk. It's in a very peaceful location. We had to move to St. Simon's Island for one night of our stay, and that Hampton was not near as welcoming or clean. Definitely the best choice of the area and a huge than you to the staff for making our stay so memorable!

This Hampton Inn meets and even exceeds standard Hampton Inn standards. We stayed in a 2 Queen Studio Suite with a balcony that overlooks the pool. The room was spacious and very clean. The beds were comfortable. There was plenty of storage. The microwave worked fine but the small, refrigerator was not cold at all and the door would not stay closed. The shower had a granite seat in it, which I thought was a nice touch, but the water pressure was quite pitiful. I tried adjusting the shower head but never got the results I needed to rinse my hair easily. The pool is clean and there are plenty of lounges and tables to use in the pool area. There is a baby pool and a really warm hot tub, as well as a window for ordering at the inside bar/cafe. The lobby and dining area are clean, comfortable and the atmosphere is nice. There are no rooms in this hotel with a view of the ocean but only because Jekyll Island strives to preserve the dunes and wildlife. Lights from a hotel directly on the beach would obstruct the sea turtles nesting. Access to the beach from this hotel is available by walking directly behind the pool and down a boardwalk through the dunes. The walk is absolutely gorgeous with amazing trees and plant life. It is not a long walk, however, with small children and tons of beach gear it could be a challenge. The beach is very nice and not crowded at all. Shell finding is bountiful and it is not uncommon to find sand dollars and live sea shells.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a balcony that overlooks the pool or else your view will be the parkin...

This hotel is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The location is beautiful - you walk a boardwalk from the pool area over the sand dune through beautiful live oaks to a very secluded beach. Make sure you go down to the beach at night. They light some of the live oak trees and it is gorgeous!! The staff was great - I also give credit to the owner for hiring enough employees to keep up such lovely grounds/hotel. The breakfast area was always chaotic in the morning but they kept all of the items well stocked - again they hired/trained enough employees to do this. The rooms were well maintained and clean. And the bathroom was quite large compared to other hotels bathrooms. Coming back to this hotel after long hot days on the island was a pleasure!

Room Tip: We faced the live oak trees/pool area on the 4th (top) floor. It was very quiet.
