We suspected that this wouldn't be the ideal stay due to the attractive price. But since we knew we wouldn't be spending much time in the room, (due to attendance at a wedding elsewhere on the island), we figured we'd go for it.

First, the positive points... The oceanside view was excellent. The room was spacious. The bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows.

However, as positive as that sounds, the negatives were in the majority.

Upon entering the room, a moldy odor overwhelmed us. We tried airing the room out but the odor was so embedded in the room, there was no getting away from it. We've been home for 24 hours and my wife is still coughing from her exposure to the mold.

During our 18 hour stay, (with limited time in the room), we found 2 roaches. There were holes and in walls and the room generally looked unkept.

It's a shame, because with relatively little effort and cost, these rooms can be repaired and cleaned up. This would make all the difference in the world. But the lack of such attention told me more about the hotel than anything else. I sense that management/ownership just doesn't care. We would not stay there again.

“Very, very unpleasant stay!”

Oceanside Inn & Suites

Oct 5, 2008

We were on Tybee Island and decided to drive down to Jekyll Island for two days. We hadn't booked a room, but were planning on staying at the Quality Inn because of the Choice Privileges points....however, we were deceived into this hotel instead! We stopped at the visitors center on our way onto the island to get some more information about the area. We knew about about the turtles and thats why we were there. There was a really nice friendly lady sitting at a table to the right of the main counter. Before the lady at the counter had a chance to speak to us, this other lady came right up and asked if we had a place to stay. I was very leary she was a timeshare/condo salesperson so I explained we had planned to stay at the Quality Inn. She then went on to talk about this hotel and how great it was - newly remodeled, right on the beach, amazing views from the room balconies, great restaurant attached to the hotel, etc. Since we didn't know much about the area hotels and only knew the Quality wasn't on the oceanside, we decided to go with her suggestion. Even though she gave us a "discounted" rate and free breakfast, is wasn't worth the money spent! What a mistake!

This hotel is not on the water - its a huge walk down to the cliff and then down a whole lot of steps to actually get to the water...then when the tide comes in there is no beach, its all covered with water! Now, for the hotel itself. When we drove up, we saw the hotel looked pretty shabby from the backside and was a little scared about checking in. We walked in and the lobby was gorgous so we decided to stay, thinking if they put that much into the lobby, surely the rooms had to be as nice! WRONG!! OMG - was a huge disappointment! We were put in the 500 building on the bottom floor (there goes our nice balcony view!). The room was a gross disappointment! Wet, damp, moldy-smelling. The "furniture" is damp, dirty and scary! Then I went to use the bathroom - ugh...even worse! It is very tiny and there is no vent/fan. There was dirty towels folded up on the shelves, unwrapped soap, a 1/2 roll of tp and no extras. There was dark curlies in the shower and smooshed bugs on the floor and in the shower curtain. Gross! The front door was hard to open and shut and the lock barely worked. And the bottom of the door didn't meet the floor, so there was a good 1/2 inch gap between that left room for bugs and other crap to come in. The bedding is scary and very poor quality.

Just a huge overall disappointment!!! We loved the island and will be back next summer...but we will never stay at this hotel again!! Even the Days Inn looked nicer! I would not recommend this place to anyone!! I told the man at the checkout counter all the problems we encountered during one night and he had no response. I even took up the dirty towels - had no reply other than he'd have a word with the maids.

We have never been to Jekyll Island before, so on our way to Florida we decided to give it a shot, after much studying on the internet we chose this hotel. I had read the reviews and still went for it.
Our suite was fine, yes, the bathroom was very small, the air conditioner was not very cold, BUT the view outside our window was breathtaking! We had a great package rate that included breakfast dailey. What we appreciated was the fact that their was a restaurant and bar on the property, it came in quite handy!
We will be back, the staff was great, the walking path was great and the pool was clean and spacious.
After much comparison with prices, this hotel offered the best deal, so if you are looking for something better, than you are going to have to pay for it!
IWe loved it there and give them a chance, we didn't experience the horror stories that I have read!

“We Enjoyed Our Stay”

Oceanside Inn & Suites

Jul 29, 2008

I stayed at the hotel before reading the reviews and just read the reviews when I decided to write my own. I read the reviews during the month that we stayed and during the particular time we were staying at the hotel. I guess you can say that everyone was right and it just depends on what you were expecting. We needed a short family vacation after my spouse got back from Iraq and before the kids started school. The room we had was clean but there was some damages which made the bathroom look dirty. The carpets were really clean considering you are at a beach resort and bringing in sand and dirt all the time. I do think that the cleaning crew needs to go down a check list and make sure they clean under cushions of the couches and under and behind the couch. The couches are not pull outs unless specifically stated that they are. We stayed during a conference at the Inn and were pleasantly surprised that we were not kept up all night. Our expectations were: having sufficient room for the family, a refrigerator, shower, cable TV, close to beach, laundry facilities and parking. Our needs were met!! The ads about the renovations were not misleading, you just have to make sure that you read that the restaurant was what was renovated. All I can say is "know what you want and what you expect and then do your research". If you don't need the Hilton and all it's amenities then Oceanside is a great place to stay. Oh, as for high tide and the amount of beach, I'm pretty sure that's uncontrollable. Jekyll is an island for preserving the habitat that migrates there and the dunes are where they are, no controlling that. There are outside showers to get the sand off you before going into your room. They are conveniently located by the Inn. There are 2 different areas that you can take to access the beach. Again the dunes are preserved for wildlife and the Inn only allows you to enter the beach area from these two points. The pool is very nice it is 3-8 feet (I think). We didn't use the internet access but were told prior to reserving the room that it was only located in the lobby. There are ice machines and soda machines located between the buildings and there is a snack machine outside the main lobby. There are laundry facilities on the top floor of the 400 building (I looked forever for it on the bottom floor). Maintenance was awesome when we locked ourselves out of the room by leaving the latch on the front door and locking the beach side door when we went to the beach. We leave our do not disturb sign on the door the entire time we are there but the maid service still left towels, shampoo, soap and tp everyday on our door knob. We didn't deal with the staff very much but again you are only disappointed or excited depending on what you expect. Think "Average" stay on the beach and you may be very pleased with this Inn.

Where do I begin... When we arrived at 4 pm check in time, rooms was not ready until 6pm. that was the 1st problem. Once we all got in our rooms we had to all ask for bath towels and soap. checked the tub it was molded, so they moved us us to another room. my cousin room didn't have a shower head so they moved rooms as well. Staff was nice but the overvall stay was nothing like the staff. The grass was high and had food and dog poo in it. A/C was too cold and loud and the rooms stink.
