“I've stayed in worse...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

But I don't know that I would choose this location again. The staff was professional and friendly, but I was unimpressed with the rooms. It was clean enough, but the bathroom was small and cramped, and the positioning of the furniture was odd. The closet had no door and piping was exposed. I can tell some sort of renovations had been done on the property, but more is needed. My room featured two flat screen tvs, but there was no automated check out option and limited tv channels. I've stayed in much nicer hotels in larger cities near higher value attractions for this price or less.

On a positive note, the view of the ocean was absolutely beautiful and relaxing.

Dear guyfromfaraway,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with others. We are particularly gratified by your generous comments about our staff, who do work diligently to keep up with our 50+ year old facility. We are pretty sure, as oceanfront accommodations go, that we offer some of the most economical available. We check...frequently.

We hope that when you are next in the mood for a nostalgic beach getaway, and are willing to trade some modern conveniences, that you will consider a return visit to Oceanside!

Cheers,

Jason Smith

This is a good value of a hotel on the beach and walkable to anything you want, restaurants, miniature golf and the historic district at the Jekyll Island Hotel area. The staff is friendly and the on site restaurant is wonderful. The rooms are exceptionally bright as this property is not stuffed under the damp darkness of trees like the hotel at the north end of the island (Villas). I enjoyed my time so much that I was only in my room to sleep. An excellent value for a beach walker like me.

The Oceanside Inn and Suites is located on the northern beachside of Jekyll Island. It is a family friendly place with a huge backyard, big pool, and easy access to the beach.

Why should you stay here? Well, you can actually get a view of the water - the Hampton requires a climb up stairs over a small forest of sand dunes to get to the beach. The Oceanview has one of the few restaurants open for three meals on the island. In the busy summer season, I suspect it will be quieter and more laid back.

Like many motels in a resort area, the rooms have taken a beating in places and repairs seem one step behind. We also saw a lot of people working to catch up before the summer tourist season.

Room Tip: The Suites did not seem very large and we thought the rooms with huge refrigerators was a better cho...

Loved the hotel and front desk staff, all were very accomodating to the requests made for a relaxing evening away from our house that was just painted. Most helpful upon check was Charneka, she was especially helpful and very professional, she made sure the room meet every need and the comfort level and view a plus! Will come back again for a longer stay/getaway in the very near future.

The room was spacious and on the beach. The staff was very friendly. However the hotel is in desperate need of an update. There was a huge crack around our door which let the wind and rain in. I really felt that the accommodations were over priced.

Upon check in we found out we were given a smoking room and that ALL rooms in this hotel are pet friendly. Apparently there were no other rooms to move us to. Thankfully, I brought an arsenal of allergy and asthma meds for my poor child so she didn't have to suffer too badly. Room was nasty. Black dusty junk hanging from the ceiling, hair on the wall in the bathroom, streaky moldy toilet bowl, dirty panties behind a piece of furniture, stains on all the upholstered furniture, cigarette ashes all over the arm of the sofa, and the general stink that comes from smoke and animals (lovely urine odor that presented regularly). My side of the bed was sagging which has resulted in the most horrid neck pain. We had to ask for items that should have been stocked when the room was cleaned. No chairs for our patio. Found dried dog poo in the yard. College kids didn't bother us too badly, but the walls are so thin we could hear everything going on outside our door (I barely slept the first of our two nights). NO VENT in the bathroom...where does the shower steam go? Or the general odors that often come from using the bathroom? YUCK. We had a roach crawl on our table in the restaurant while we were eating. The waitress seemed completely unfazed. This place just screamed of nasty. I used to vacation here when I was growing up and it was much nicer then. Will never make the mistake of staying here again.

The hotel is old and we knew that going in so that really wasn't an issue. The room was on the ocean and very spacious. The problem was we were told when we checked in that a fraternity was staying in the hotel. Of course we asked to be placed as far away from them as possible. When we arrived at our room we learn that we are approximately 6 rooms away. So all night we heard the screaming of drunk partying college students. Upon waking the following morning we were met with liquor bottles, beer cans, and several screaming college kids again. We asked the front desk about moving and were told if we paid an additional $40 dollars they would move us! This was the worst customer service I have ever received from any hotel. Thanks to the staff of the hotel our weekend get a way was a bust.
