Oct 10th, a friend & I ate here--our 1st time. She ordered unsweetened tea with lemon. I - sweet tea with lemon. Two sips later, I said it was horrible. My friend said hers tasted ok, so I tasted again, like an idiot.
Seconds later I was sweating & off to the bathroom. I felt slightly better, our food arrived. As soon as the waitress saw my face, she said, "I'll box this up for you", and whisked it away!
We ate in the bar area. I'm not reviewing the taste of the food as I never touched it. But I've had fast food fish which looked better. My friend ate the same meal & said hers was ok.
I was not sure it was the lemon until I arrived home & put the lunch box down planning to give the fish to the dog. In short, dog grabbed a lemon, immediately retched & had diarrhea.
The worst of the stomach pain came the next day, lasting more than 18 hours. Ages ago I read of a test taken in NY. More than 80 % of the restaurants had contaminated lemons.
Google: "Food bugs could be killing 3 times as many people as figures suggest & be causing fatalities up to a yr after infection." Five days later I am still cramping. The health dept. has been notified. They said to not call the cafe. I take no pleasure in criticizing a local business without talking to them. But such carelessness is dangerous.
I'd like to say to Cafe Portofino: wash your [--] lemons.
