“Cozy Mountain Retreat in a Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2009

The Alpine Crest Resort is nestled in the beautiful mountains of Helen, Georgia. Reading some of the reviews here made me a little nervous at first, but I’m relieved to say that the resort turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Like most of the other hotels and shops in Helen, the Alpine Crest is designed in the Bavarian/South German style. It sort of reminded me of a Gingerbread House. Our unit was on the top floor, and included our own covered parking space beneath. The inside had a warm log-cabin feel to it. Although our unit was described as a one-bedroom, it had a loft upstairs with an extra bed and bathroom with garden tub. We also had a full kitchen, fireplace, and a good-sized balcony facing a quiet wooded area. One of the best things about the Alpine Crest Resort is its location. We visited during Helen’s popular Oktoberfest celebration, and while we were within walking distance to the downtown action, we were just far enough off the main drag to not be bothered by the festivities once back in our room. As for the room, it’s true that the Alpine Crest has probably seen better days. The carpet was a little worn and some of the faucets dripped, but these are minor things that can sometimes be typical of older properties. We never got the feeling that we were “roughing it” and certainly there was nothing about the resort that spoiled our stay. In fact, we plan on returning for a weekend in the spring. The Alpine Crest Resorts is a perfect choice for anyone who can relax in a cozy atmosphere, overlook a few flaws, and just wants to enjoy the lovely scenery of the mountains in the cute town of Helen.

I went here and stayed with my husband and 4 kids and we had a blast. The place is a BIT outdated...but its livable and had some really great ammenities. The coolest water slides, indoor pool and hot tub, lake to fish in, tennis courts, playground, quick walk into Helen without having to get out and pay and park, paddle boats to go out on lake, and so much more. We grilled out and played football right outside our condo a couple of different nights. About the only real problem we had was they didnt pick up the trash on a daily basis like they said they would. It took them about 4 days to get it from the day we got there so it piled up quick and sharing with the other units, its was kinda gross. But I would definately go back. I think the reviews on here scared us a bit, but all in all we came out with a positive review.

  • Liked — the things to do at the resort and how close we were to Downtown Helen
  • Disliked — didnt get a great response from the owners and workers when approaching them about the trash problem

The unit we stayed in needed more then a little TLC. We arrived on Saturday to very little water pressure. Upstairs toilet couldn't be used. Neither shower could be used. When we asked about it, we were told the problem was in the town and there had been a break in a line. Not True. Sunday we stopped at the Chamber of Commerce and were told that they knew of no problems in the town. They called the police and they said the same. Then the public works was called and they confirmed no breaks. The problem was at Alpine Crest. After numerous calls and different stories they had people there working on the situation on Tuesday morning. So we were without showers and only one slow working toilet until later Tuesday. We overheard one of the workers state that this was a problem that should have been fixed at least 3 weeks prior. The fan had clumps of dirt hanging off it. The furniture had not been dusted, in other words not a nice place to stay. We made the best of it as we had traveled a good distance to be there. The staff was not helpful at all and each had a different story as to why we had no water.
We would never recommend this place to anyone and with all the places we have stayed, in and out of the country this was the worst.
Very poor management of a place that could be nice.

Just returned from a trip to Helen, Ga. The scenery was magnificent, leaves incredible and weather beautiful. The Alpine Crest Resort was the only thing lacking......Unit we stayed in was very dated. Old carpet in need of cleaning or replacing, bedspreads in both bedrooms torn and very worn. Sofa cushion had a hole in it, and towels frayed and thin. I asked for a towel exchange on Monday but never got one, or even a call back. The staff wasn't always available and even when they were seemed to not want to be bothered. Only activity at this resort during the week we were there was on Tues night, a local 3 man band, nice guys but could not sing!!!!!. Good location for town.....have to drive down the mountain and park at the pool but walk to town was very short, worked out great during weekend when the traffic was backed up. I would not stay at this resort again unless they update their units. Very disappointed in resort.

After reading all the bad reviews, I was very nervous about what I was going to find at this resort. However, thanks to the honesty of a timeshare owner at this location, I was properly prepared. The units are older, but the lay out of the unit was very appropriate for our family. We had enough room for an enjoyable stay. Based on the reviews I read, the unit was cleaner than I expected, was not as "old" as I envisioned, and was very quiet and peaceful. There are areas that can use improvement, the door to the unit was very weathered, the wallpaper is coming loose in one of the bathrooms (due to steam), the carpet is very light colored, so of course it shows wear and there was a hole in front of the fireplace where it looks like the fire popped. If you are expecting the Hilton, you will be greatly disappointed. If you are looking for a simple family get away, I think you will like this resort. There is a nice indoor pool, a small fishing pond with a paved walking path and for summer fun, a double outdoor water slide. Our stay was a pleasant surprise. (We stayed in Bldg. Frankfurt, top floor with a loft.)

  • Liked — unit lay out was ideal for our family, convenient to downtown attractions
  • Disliked — units are older, needs some TLC in some areas (ie: entrance door, carpets, wallpaper)

We just returned from this facility. Although our overall experience in Helen was good, I would not recommend this resort. When I called prior to our stay with some inquiries, the staff was not at all friendly. Upon arrival, our reservation could not be found and it took 45 min. to get checked in. Once we arrived at the unit, we were apalled at the overall mainenance of the bldg. The exterior was in need of cleaning, paint and even had some rotted wood. The inside of the unit was dark, dirty and had several items missing from the inventory sheet and some of the items that were there should have been replaced. (I wish we had taken more photos, but photos were an afterthought as we were leaving). The freezer condensation dripped on to the food in the frig. The unit seemed as if it had not been prepared for us at all. There were lights that didn't work and although we were coming with a party of six, there were only 5 pillows and no blankets to make up the sofa bed. When we called the front desk, we were told that housekeeping closed at five. Even the cheapest motel offers better service than that! If you want a place that is clean and friendly, I suggest you look elsewhere.

We have had our timeshare at Alpine Crest now for over 5 years. It is in an awesome spot with so many things to do around the area. We are big into hiking and that is our center of operations. We have brought all of our family members there as guests, and they always ask when they can go back. Now my wife and I have two daughters and they enjoy it as well. They are good people that run Alpine Crest and they are doing everything they can to upgrade the facilities. If you are expecting the Ritz, look elsewhere, but for great family fun in a clean resort, Alpine Crest is the spot!
