“Smelled like old people and kerosene....that says it all.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2010

My co-worker recommended this place to me, since I'd be in Hapeville for training for two weeks. Well, when I get back we'll have to have a talk about what his home life is like if he considers this place even remotely acceptable. The front desk staff and housekeeping are great, but they can't make up for the elderliness of all of the finishes, especially everything in the kitchen. I opened the microwave and saw that it had been made in February 1990...and it was the newest appliance in the kitchen! That should be changing, I was actually asked to relocate due to renovations taking place in my building, but chose to move on to another hotel altogether since I'd just be moving to another non-renovated room. I was upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite with a fireplace, which I used every day. Free internet, parking and breakfast are great, but not if you avoid going back to your hotel at all costs.

After reading reviews about this hotel, we nearly went elsewhere but we were glad we didn't. This was a great hotel and it really worked out perfect. The breakfast was good and a full buffet with a nice variety of items. Our room was clean & quite and nicely appointed. I have no idea whay the reviews of this hotel were so bad. Our stay was perfect and we will be staying there again.

This hotel is in the process if a renovation. It's not up to Marriott standards. Wait until it's finished to stay here. The first room they gave me was dirty. The second one was cleaner, but the furnishings are tired and not comfortable. On a positive note, the front desk staff were friendly.

Stayed here with our inlaws prior to flying home. The air conditioning in the two bedroom suite we reserved didn't work. Called the front desk and after an hour and two phone calls later we were moved to two separate rooms. As an added amenity our in laws found a live bullet cartridge on their sofa. This property is far below the quality you would expect from a Residence Inn. Furnishings are worn and badly in need of updating. It is split into different buildings and if your room is on the second floor you will be hauling your luggage up stairs. Breakfast doesn't start until 7. If you have an early flight as we did don't plan on enjoying the complimentary breakfast.

Stayed at this Residence Inn back in January; had to go down to GA for my grandmother's funeral. As a Marriott Rewards member I'm usually quite pleased with their level of service and the quality of the accomodations; however in this case it was a let down to say the least. When I stepped in the door, I thought I was in 1991. Not sure when this place was built, but it hasn't been updated since it opened. Everything from the stove to the carpet was old. Will never stay here again, until Marriott or the operator takes some pride of ownership and makes some much needed rennovations.

-Two bedroom suite: 1 wired internet connection
-Each bedroom: a very worn mattress and dresser (enough furniture to support 1 guest each)
-TV's: 3-19" tube TVs [1 for each bedroom and 1 in the common area (I was surpised we didn't get a set of rabbit-ears with our room key);
-Worn furniture (no holes or tears, just well past it's usable age)

Stay away...until someone cares enough to invest in some basic upgrades.

But I will say, the staff was both friendly and helpful.

I have stayed at many Residence Inn Hotels, this one was the worst. Front desk was the only bright spot. The breakfast staff had attitudes, like they were doing you a favor putting breakfast out. The breakfast and manager reception food selection was weak for a Residence Inn. Rooms need modernizing. No wireless internet in rooms, 27" TV with grainy TV reception. Kitchen has 1970's avocado colored appliances. Not exactly in a good part of town.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2010

We stayed in this residence inn once on each side of a trip to Hilton Head, in which we flew into and out of Atlanta airport.

The first time was a disaster. Our flight got in very late (1:00 AM), the night staff took dozens of rings to wake up to tell us where the shuttle was, and then could not find the shuttle driver, and told us he had no idea how long it would take for the shuttle to show up. We paid $20 for a cab to take us the couple of miles. The night staff guy took minutes to wake up to let us in the front door, and then was so exhausted he was not even coherent. (I feel bad for the guy: that's a tough job, and Atlanta had flight delays three days in a row, so he probably hadn't had a good night's sleep for half a week -- but the hotel has to do something to make his life tolerable, so guests' lives are tolerable!) Then, he told us he did not have the two room suite we had reserved available, so we only got a one bedroom suite, which would have been very awkward if our son's flight hadn't been cancelled. The day staff were pleasant, and breakfast was nice (though I'd love to see more whole grains get into hotel breakfasts!).

The next trip was a dream by comparison. We arrived much earlier, the staff were alert and helpful, we got the two room suite, which was nice and spacious, and the checkout info was hung on our door early. The room was a bit imperfect (crooked cabinets and tired appliances and furnishings), but perfectly comfortable and clean, and the plumbing was great. (Wireless internet did not work in the room, but they did have wired internet, which worked fine both times.)

So: i'm giving 2* ratings for one 1* experience, and one 3* experience.
