“Pleasantly surprised...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Booked a duo half day spa package for a friend's birthday on the day the spa re-opened following a brief closure for repairs.

At a cost of £75 for the both of us my expectations weren't overly high, but on arrival I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and polite. The spa has a nice variety of different things to try, including foot spas, hot tubs, a steam room etc.

We had the inclusive 25 minute back massage and paid extra for an eyebrow shape. Neither treatments were spectacular but they were good.

Only a few downsides to note:

- The changing rooms are ridiculously small with no hair straighteners only hair dryers. In this day and age every good spa should be equipped with hair straighteners!

- Tea/coffee and slippers were available... but at an extra charge. Surely they should be inclusive!?

Complaints out of the way, overall a great experience and fantastic value for money. Will definitely be recommending it to friends and family.

“Hen party”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Visit for a friends hen party we stayed over in the hotel and went to the theme park the day after. Was a really good experience and great for price. Around 12 of us went and it was a great laugh and lovely to relax. Would deffinatly go again either for a hen party or for a couples weekend! Lovely pool with a jaccuzi, foot spa and sauna rooms. there are other treatment rooms too but we didn't visit those as you pay extra for them

“Cramped conditions to change but lovely treatments”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Went with my mum and sisters for mum's birthday and we managed to get quite a good deal. It's quite a walk to the spa through the hotel, which was not great for my mum, but when you get there the staff are nice and you get your food ordered straight away, so you know what is happening when.

The rooms in the spa area are quite good. Sauna, steam etc. One room was just nice and warm, but seemed a bit pointless! The foot spa's were ok and the pool itself was quite nice, although small. The conservatory area is small but ok, slightly annoying you have to pay for coffee, finding someone to serve you first when it is terrible coffee after all that!

We had to walk quite a way to the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant quite cold, not great when in a soggy costume and dressing gown. The food was ok, service a bit slow. The steak sandwiches were nice, but were not able to have chips! Which was annoying! My sister was very disgruntled though as she ordered a fruit salad, which was literally apple! I had more variety in my granola pudding, which was more like muesli!!

Included in our price was a half hour facial and back massage, which was lovely. They do try and sell you all the products afterwards, but you know that is just part of what they do. But treatments were ok.

Worst issue with this whole experience was the changing rooms. These are absolutely tiny and if there are more than two of you there is just NO room! There is hardly any room for your things and it is tricky to balance and dress when more people in there. Some people were being offered hotel rooms to change in, but all seems a bit weird to have literally no space. Other small issue was having to queue and wait and wait and wait to pay before leaving!! Frustrating!

Treatments made the whole thing worthwhile! And we had a bargain! But not sure would recommend!!

“Like easyjet but without the extras! Awful - Please do not waste your money on this”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Thank you for emailing Guest Services at the Alton Towers Resort. We have received your email message, and appreciate your feedback. To allow us to review your feedback or concerns and ensure you receive a proper response, we will require a short time to investigate your message.
I am disgusted by the poor standards in your spa and have just discovered my friend paid £99 in advance for a special offer in addition to the £214 we paid for extra treatments. The robes were threadbare, towels inadequate and the 'lunch' was astonishingly appalling. Many of the staff we encountered were pleasant and I enjoyed a massage which is more than I can say for my friend who was upset by her treatments, the conditions and the cattlemarket, easyjet atmosphere of this place, the foot spas were covered in putty and looked grimy, the included treatments were not up to par and the hoards of people having to stand about in your awful robes led to a terrible day which should have been a celebration. It is daylight robbery, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I will provide an honest review of this dreadful place on tripadvisor and wonder how you can sleep in good conscience when taking hard earned money off people for such an awful thing. Yes I did express this to the reception staff but not in such serious terms it was bad encough that you charged us £214 but in finding out my friend had already paid £99 I am even more disgusted. Shame on you

“Treatments lovely but need more attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Went here twice and the first time the place was a tip when we arrived. Lots of dirty cups, glasses and wet towels everywhere. They had run out of water and it was a bit grim. The massages were lovely and the therapists were good.
