I've eaten here numerous times over the years. And I have to say that the service and the menu offerings have slowly diminished in quality over that time. The last time I visited, they had even removed most of the lunch menu (leaving people a few options other than buying a full-out dinner at lunch). I am careful about nutrition these days (as aging sets in) and found that (surprisingly enough) it was a bit tough to find really healthy options here (meaning not fried, not starchy, and not covered in flour). Acceptable, not wonderful by any means.

Douglasville has a few good restaurants like Provinos, Gumbeaux's. Joe's is not on the same level as those places. This is, of course, a chain; nothing wrong with that.

Upon entering we were greeted promptly and led to a booth. It was a rainy day and the building had a weird musty smell. Not pleasant but we blamed it on the damp weather.
Waitress was nice and answered questions about the various steamed buckets, etc.
We ordered an appetizer of crab dip and spinach and artichoke dip. It was very good..probably the highlight of our meal. We shared the Orleans bucket which had crawfish, shrimp and sausage, potatoes and a piece of steamed corn. The seafood was only ok. The shrimp was better than the crawfish for sure but neither were great. The sausage was good. We got 6 shrimp, about 10 or 12 crawfish, i piece of sausage 4 small potatoes and a piece of corn...plenty to share. We love spicy food but this was over the top. The cajun seasoning was overwhelming to say the least, especially on the corn.
We ordered a side of hushpuppies and they were very good.

Now our main complaint....a man who seemed to be the manager chastised our waitress right in front of our booth for something she had failed to do concerning the tables. He was loud; he was accusing. He basically insisted she tell him if she had "taken the test" and when she said she hadn't, he told her to come the kitchen "right now" to complete it. We felt bad for her and it made us very uncomfortable. He may be the one who needs to "take a test." Perhaps one on customer skills and how to treat guests to his restaurant.

Food was average here. Decor, surroundings were barely average. Service was fairly good on part of waitress (it apparently took her a long time to complete the "test" because we didn't see her again for at least 15 minutes and finally had to ask for our check) and very poor on part of management. Manager was obviously not concerned about us...if he had been he'd have let our waitress wait until she finished serving us to "take the test" or he'd have assigned another one to us.

We will probably not be back and if we do we will stick to appetizers and the very good hushpuppies. And we will hope that that young manager is off that day.

Overall rating is poor to barely average.

“Great Seafood , Just Wish We Had One Close By”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I wouldn't listen to the other reviewer, because this place is actually very good. We live about 40 minutes away from Douglasville near Peachtree City. We drove here not only because it was my birthday, but also we wanted seafood, and we don't have any seafood places near by besides Red Lobster, but that is all the way in Newnan. Most of us ordered their steam pots of seafood. I ordered the Arctic Bay one, and it was delicious. Fresh crab, lobster, peeling shrimp, and even delicious sausage and corn on the cob. I wish we had a Joes nearby, because the seafood is so good. There is another Joes Crab Shack in Morrow, but that is like 35 minutes away. I would say don't stop and just come on in and enjoy some great seafood, but the food is very good. There is also a playground for the kids to play on. Definitely we will return again.

“STOP ... Terrible food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We made the mistake of stopping here with family. We were greeted at the door by a pleasant hostess and were surprised to see only 4 tables occupied. We ordered 2 appetizers of fried calamari and it arrived in 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, it was cold and greasy. We ate a little of it and ignored it and continued conversation with family we had not seen for a while, with hopes of a more pleasant experience for our dinner entree's. We should have listened to the "little voices."

Order dinner order was placed and food arrived nearly 70 minutes later. When I inquired about the wait, the waitress was very courteous and stated she would check. There were still only 4 tables occupied. A few minutes later, a lady appeared and stated she was the Manager and the food was "coming up now and would be at our table within a minute." She offered a complimentary dessert as their way of saying they were sorry. The food arrived about 10 minutes later.

My wife had ordered lobster, scallops, shrimp, etc. The seafood was overcooked and rubbery along with a very salty flavor. My food was greasy and also overcooked, The remainder of the family experienced much the same issues.

Rather than make a scene, we paid our bill and left. I have requested a refund via the corporate office but, some 3 days later, we have yet to hear anything at all. I will give them the benefit since they may be out for the holidays. I will update this review if we receive a positive response from the corporate office.

I was very disappointed in this restaurant since our grown adult children had suggested we go there and they had been numerous times in the past and enjoyed it.

You may want to try at your own risk!
