Decided to take a last-minute weekend trip to visit my husband's family and the Georgia Aquarium. Booked this property through the hotel's website. We chose the neighborhood for proximity to the old homestead as well as places to eat and a Marta station, and the hotel's indoor pool was a major selling point as my ADHD kid needs a good dose of activity after being in the car for 4 hours. We were able to check in as early as noon on Saturday. Room was spacious, nice furnishings, quite clean. Not crazy about the mint-scented Garden Botanika bathroom amenities, but that's just my preference. The color of the shower curtain makes the shower quite dark inside, which I don't particularly like, but again just personal preference. Perfectly adequate otherwise. Got settled and took a walk to find some lunch. Lots of good choices in the area. Came back and had a swim. The pool area is a little stark and the water was chilly for a heated pool, but my five-year-old didn't seem to mind. The fitness room and business center are right near the pool and looked well-equipped, but we didn't check them out. Afterwards we went back to the room for a rest before meeting the family for dinner nearby. In the elevator there was a sign welcoming a Sweet 16 birthday party to the hotel, which made me think "oh great", but we never heard any noise. Got up early the next morning, breezed through checkout. The front desk staff were polite and efficient. Breakfast buffet in the hotel smelled good, but was expensive so we walked down the block to Starbucks instead. Had originally planned to use Marta to get to the aquarium and the location would have been ideal, but we ended up driving instead. All in all, no complaints or major issues. We will stay here again.
This is a nice hotel located in downtown Decatur, Ga. My only complaint was the indoor heated pool. A sign on the door stated the heater was broken, but water quality was OK. The water was cloudy, but I went swimming anyway. Upon returning home from my trip I became ill with an infection that affected my ears, nose and throat. My doctor was not sure if swimming in a pool could have caused it. The following weekend there was an S&M Bondage Convention scheduled. So families with young children should be aware of that.
I am not sure what most people look for in a hotel, but I am a very picky person and this hotel was outstanding. This is the first time I have ever stayed at a Holiday Inn and I had some very bad thoughts of what one may look like before I arrived. Lovely atrium upon entering. Check-in quick and easy. Staff very welcoming. I am not sure what others maybe speaking of but I had no problems at all with the hotel directly. The 800 number in which I called to make a reservation for the hotel made a mistake with the day I was to arrive and depart but the hotel promptly assured me that this was not a problem and since I had a copy of a reservation stating the days I was to stay accommodated me. The rooms are large, and clean with a mild musty smell when entering but nothing that the close local grocery store air freshener could not take care of. Most of those complaining must have maids constantly catering to there every need, if so go to a luxary 5 star hotel for service. Great mattresses on the bed and the hotel also has a pillow menu to support those snobs who feel that they should have the best. The 5 star hotels I typically stay in do not even offer that. I stayed here as part of a medical conference and would come back. Hope that this review helps anyone who is considering this hotel. Nice breakfast, good food, cute little bar. The area has many dining options so if you are not into eating at hotels go explore, you will be surprised. Clothing, shoes stores are nearby for the ladies. Within 10 min's of Lenox and Phipps Mall which was the greatest. Hope this helps for those undecided.
Believe the other reviews! I've only been here for a few hours but need to stay for three nights and already want to run. I'm here for a conference and can't change hotels, or I would have already.
My non-smoking room reeks of cigarette smoke. The hotel is at capacity so I can't get an alternate room. Our conference staff has had nothing but nightmares: the person they've been dealing with for months suddenly disappeared and the replacement had absolutely no knowledge of the organization or its needs. The two elevators are sporadic; we've already had people stuck in them. The stairway, which I would take instead, doesn't exit to the lobby, it exits to the street! I am just appalled that Holiday Inn continues to associate with this facility if it isn't going to improve things.
