“Few Ammenities for the Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2011

Pros: The room had nice beds and a fine shower.

Cons: The window did not shut all the way, the TV had been left on when we got there and made a humming noise on certain channels, there was no continental breakfast. Parking was in a local public structure and cost money.

Overnight stay with business group, so had no personal choice in accommodations. Location was fine, area seemed OK for walking with group, residential neighborhood nearby. Common areas initially appeared nice, but on closer look saw fair amount of apparent mold (dark stains) around air vents. Seemed a bit dark in hallways and in room. Had room with window facing into lobby, so needed to push chairs against curtains to keep light out adequately. Cleanliness was "so-so", nothing terrible, but also several areas didn't look like had been vacuumed in awhile, small amount of trash under edge of bed suggesting hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. I always check for bedbugs - didn't find any, which was good, but mattress itself a little sad - was comfortable enough for sleep, though. No fridge or microwave in room (note was not necessarily promised to me specifically). Very basic toiletries and coffee in room. Breakfast selection was fairly good, with nice staff members. Business room computer requested code for internet access, but none was given (gave up rather than stand in the line at the front desk again). I might stay there again if with the same group, but based on current listed prices, I suspect I could find a better room for less money.

We were at this hotel for 2 nights with a wedding party. Our room was spacious and well maintained. We felt very comfortable within our surroundings there. Would recommend it to others.

My family was in Decatur for a reunion. After having read previous reviews, we decided to stay with open minds. Microwaves and refrigerators were clearly advertised on the website. However, when we checked in, these items were not in our rooms. We made the request for one of our two rooms to include the refrigerator for medicine, and we were promptly accommodated. However, when we requested for the other room, we were informed of a $10.00 charge. I opened my cell phone to the hotel's website and showed the staff their website. They claimed it to be a "mistake" . However, when I mentioned that there were refrigerators and microwaves in some of the other rooms, I was told that they were probably left there from previous guests. OK--but are the present guests being charged for the appliances? I don't think so. We never got the refrigerator for the second room.
A- plus for the hotel was the coffee in the lobby until 9am. However, when the pot ran out at 8:45, and we told the staff, but it was not refilled as they had promised. Ok, people get busy and forget. However, when the man came out to get the pot at 9:15, we simply asked if he was refilling it, we were told that "coffee was over at 9". When we reminded the gentleman that we had asked for the coffee at 8:45, he took the cup and refilled it in the back. These are small concerns in a large picture. However, when we consider banquet food for a crowd that was merely adequate, and breakfast food that was cool rather than hot it indicates larger concerns. The building obviously needs updating even in this economy. Along with any service entity such as this hotel, there needs to be proper staff training. This would have alleviated many of the issues which were evident this weekend. This hotel is surely a pillar in this community and it is our hope that they are able to do whatever necessary to keep the negative comments at a minimum.

Spent the night here with my girlfriend. The rooms are definitely fresh, and are not what pop in to your head when you think of a stereotypical Holiday Inn. They are very modern in the main guest room. The bathroom was a bit dated, but it did the job. The hotel is right in the thick of Downtown Decatur, and is in walking distance to a number of restaurants, bars, and the MARTA station if you need to head downtown.

We stayed over the 4th of July weekend, and I have to agree with previous posters on their negative comments and experiences. The hotel has recently ceased being a Holiday Inn property, and is now the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center; however, hotel staff didn't alert us to this before we arrived, so there was some initial confusion on our end when double-checking our reservation. Hotel staff was friendly, but painfully slow. And although we were the only ones checking in, it took at least 20 minutes. Parking is $8/day, and a breakfast is provided for a fee. The common areas were dark and dingy, and the air conditioning must not have been working because all the elevators and hallways were stifling. Our room was nice and clean with a desk, small fridge and small coffee maker, but it could use an upgrade. We were visiting Decatur to enjoy the shops around Court Square; unfortunately, there aren't any other hotels in that area, so we've decided to postpone future trips to Decatur rather than stay in this hotel again.

This is no longer a Holiday Inn. It's the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center now. The room was fine, but the facility shows it's age. We arrived around 10:30A and parked the car in the garage. The desk clerk said we could check in then, but we didn't. When we came back at 2:30P, there were no rooms available and he said he didn't say we could check in at 10:30A. Rooms would only be released to the front desk at 3P. The young man did take a personal interest and jumped us to the front of the line for the first king available, which turned out to be about 3:30. He said they had been fully booked the previous night and a lot of people slept in.
