“Ok Hotel For The Area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Upon pulling off the exit from I-95, one can tell that this area has seen better days with the state of the Outlet Mall across the street (a majority of the store fronts are now empty). I had appointments right down the street, and had decent luck in the past staying @ the Hampton Inn properties before. Checking in was alright, the staff seemed friendly and helpful enough. The rooms were fairly clean, but were a bit worn. The morning breakfast was staffed by friendly people and the fare was basic.
I wouldn't say that I had a BAD experience, as other reviewers stated, it was just average. If you want some newer properties to stay at, travel about ten miles south to exit 38 (Brunswick exit) and you'll find newer hotels including another (newer) Hampton Inn. There are better choices for restaurants as well.

They were in the process of remodeling. Will look nice when they are finished. We did not have breakfast so have nothing to comment on that, just had coffee and it was fine. Beds were very comfortable. Room nice.

Thought I could count on Hampton. NOT!!!! This place turned my stomach! Rooms are dirty! Staff is lazy and rude. Break fast was grossly disgusting. They use sheets for table covers. Trash cans overflowing. Waffle maker broken. Flies. Floor filthy dirty! Service person drops tea and coffee condiments on floor, picks them up and puts them back to serve. No fruit. List goes on. This place needs to be inspected by the health department. Yuck!

My wife and I stayed her one night in early December. The lobby was undergoing renovation at the time. Frankly, the entire hotel needs an update, but not while it is open for business. I should have been told when I made my reservation that the motel was in a state of repair and offered a discount for staying.

I had business in the area and asked if it would be ok I we checked out late - after 12pm. I was told no, and that I would be charged for another night's stay if I didn't check out by noon. I rearranged my schedule to be out by 11:30am and left.

I do not recommend this Hampton Inn.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel/motel.

I believe that I have found the oldest Hampton Inn in existence!

Old carpet in the room smelled like a damp basement! The bathroom was last remodeled at least 20 years ago but at least functioned as it should.

The lobby is currently being remodeled but hardly fit for use. I cannot believe it wasn't mentioned when I reserved a room.

I'm tired of finding Hampton Inns in this condition and will likely switch to another hotel brand. I travel 20-30 times a year and expect consistant quality accommodations for the prices they ask.

OK, so the Hampton Inn in Darien, GA didn't "feel like" a Hampton. It felt more like a southern bed and breakfast. This is surely an older hotel and, as such, has an attic-like smell in the public areas, but it isn't unpleasant. Nice year round outdoor pool and a friendly staff made this a nice place to stay for a couple of nights. The mattresses were not Hampton mattresses, but they were comfortable. Pillows were not Hampton pillows, but were ok. Despite what an earlier review said, there were, in fact, cookies on the two nights that I was there. Breakfast was decent and included regional foods, such as biscuits with sausage gravy. Fitness room lacked an elliptical, but had a working exercise bike and treadmill, so I was ok with that. While I was there the staff mentioned that the hotel was not going to remain a Hampton for long. I'm not surprised, but am slightly disappointed. I probably would not have stayed there if it weren't a Hampton just because I am an HHonors member and brand loyal.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room that doesn't face the Taco Bell/KFC/El Cheapo truck stop or be prepared...

As they say, you get what you pay for but in the case of the Hampton Inn in Darien, GA you get less.

Traveling to NY, this hotel is immediately off I-95. At $80, the rate was fair if not high for the area. We expected the usual Hampton quality. We found the following:

- Pleasant staff but lacking southern hospitality
- 8:30PM arrival - NO cookies, NO freebies (such as bottled water, etc.)
- Musty, moth ball odor in entire hotel
- No ramp for luggage cart on side of building by elevator.
- Clean room but in need of refurbishment (low sinks, old carpet, etc.)
- NO microwave in room
- Comfortable bed but AWFUL pillows
- Wi-fi worked but was not particularly fast.
- Excessive outdoor lighting shines into room. Curtains do not block out light.
- Breakfast area kept replenished
- 1 microwave in breakfast area that didn't work well.
- 1 pop-up toaster with broken coil -- took 6 minutes to toast english muffin.
- Antiquated exercise equipment in "gym" - one very old treadmill, one stepper, one bike

Hotels rates in the area are $50 - $65. At $80 plus tax, this was an adequate stay but we will drive past the Darien exit next time.
