“Very Worthwhile Historical Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

We stopped here recently and were very impressed. The reconstructed fort is well done and the video about the Fort history not to be missed. We did the nature walk and toured the rest of the grounds, including the grave sites. The staff were excellent and explained the construction methods very well. I think children would enjoy this site and find it as educational as we did.

“Great fort reconsruction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

This is a state park with an entrance fee, conveniently a few miles off of I-95. We found it well worth the visit. There is a short video and a mostest museum that puts in perspective the history of the location from the Guale Indians to the establishment of Fort King George and then development of Darien around the lumber industry. The museum has some excellent artifacts, such as a surgeons kit and examples of plants used as medicines and what they were used to treat.

Outside is a very well done reconstruction of the fort, with multiple buildings and the palisade and moat as it was situated in the 1700's. We met a park ranger who is actually building a wattle and daub house outside the fort to show another period of history on the site. There are also remnants of former saw mill sites.

Overall, nicely done and well labelled with a map you receive when you enter and signs around the grounds.

“neat stop”

small museum. Good video. Friendly persons. Walk to a reproduction 1736 fort w/blockhouse, walled perimeter, outbuildings. Nature walk was good. Everything neat and well maintained. Small cemetery.

“Great fort recreation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

The main attraction in little Darien, Georgia. The recreation of the fort allows you see what the living conditions for the soldier was like in the 1700's. There are picnic tables on site and a nature trail. The small museum is well put together. A nice way to spend a couple of hours on a pretty day.

“Worth the time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Nothing special for the type of facility, but interesting and worthwhile. Good film presentation prior to self-guided tour. Recreation of fort apparently authentic and well done.
