We visit Dalton each spring going to and from Florida from our home in Michigan. We usually eat at the Dalton Depot, but this time decided to try the Oakwood Cafe, based on the recommendation of a hotel employee. What a great find! The Oakwood is located right downtown, but parking is plentiful and free. When you walk into the Oakwood, it's as if you're flashing back into the 1950s. Don't expect anything even close to "fancy dining", because that's not what you will get at the Oakwood. It is simple and plain. The food is wholesome, tasty and very reasonably priced. (Dinner for two for under $25 including tip!) I had the BBQ pork and my wife had pot roast. The servings were large and tasty and the service was excellent. I regret I was too full to try some of their desserts.
The place was very clean. For the life of me, I don't know why anyone would visit one of the many chain restaurants located near I-75 when they could eat at a place like the Oakwood Cafe. Sorry Dalton Depot, but we have found a new favorite. Next time I'm in northern Georgia, I'll go out of my way to stop at the Oakwood Cafe. Try it; you won't be disappointed. I promise!
