Just returned from a two day trip to North Georgia. See my review on Amicalola Falls State Park for lodging. Spent a great day in Dahlonega with our 9 year old & 15 year old. Start at the visitors center on the square in down town Dahlonega. From there you can get an idea on lunch or dinner. The gold musuem in the square is a must. Takes around 1 hour. Around the square are shops, candy stores, ice cream & food! Very pretty and everyone is so polite. You can tell they want the tourist business. We also toured the Consolidated Mines, panned for gold and gems. A great way to spend a couple of hours. Something very different to do with the kids. There is some lodging in Dahlonega but most are B&B or cabins that seem to be popular with couples. But dont let that keep you from a great day trip with the kids!
