“Nice B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2007

We recently stayed at the Lily Creek Lodge for our anniversary. I would say it was an above average stay.

The grounds/gardens were absolutely beautiful. There was soft music playing outside which was very relaxing. Although we didn't get to enjoy the pool, it looked very inviting. I liked the fact the pool was away from the house, tucked away from everything. There was also a hot tub which you could enjoy.

I will say when we walked in to the main area, there was a strong musty smell which had me concerned that our room would smell that way (it did not). They will ask you for the $$ upfront when you get there which made me laugh. We have stayed at other B&B's that wait until you get settled--no biggie. We stayed in the Moonglow room which was nice...very eclectic/random furniture though. We had a walk in shower which was great. However, we lost hot water a few times during our showers. I'm not sure if everyone else was trying to shower at the same time and they ran out of hot water--somewhat frustrating.

We walked around Dahlonega and ate at a fabulous restaurant--Corkscrew Cafe right off the square. It was out of this world! My husband and I eat out a lot and we rated this restaurant in our top 10. He had the New york strip and I had the Pork loin--both very, very good. Great wine list as well. I heard there were other restaurants just as good.

We had breakfast at Lily Creek the next morning which was wonderful. You could sit outside or inside the dining room. The owners didn't come around much until breakfast but they were nice.

All in all, I would recommend staying there. It might be a little overpriced for what you get, but we don't enjoy staying in basic hotels. We love the ambiance of a B&B.

Rustic envioronment, gourmet breakfast...care to eat in a treehouse or gazebo? Lie around a waterfalled pool? The best kept secret in the
Altanta area. Seriously! As a school principal, having peace, quiet, and space to recharge is worth it's weight in Dahlonega gold!

Deluxe rooms..hosts (Sharon and Don), who will guide, entertain, or leave you to the solitude of exploring all the amenities the lodge and nature have to offer. All a world away, yet forty-five minutes from my home in Alpharetta. A treasure! So why am I blowing my best-kept secret?? It's just too good not to!!

We have stayed at the Lily Creek Lodge for 5 visits. Initially, we wanted to let our stays in Dahlonega (our getaway place) to include visits to several bed and breakfasts in the area. However, once we stayed at Lily Creek, we kept rebooking with them for future visits.

The inn is located in an area surrounded by beautiful trees. You feel like you are in a country retreat, but are really close to Dahlonega and the surrounding arease and all that they have to offer.
The innkeepers, Sharon and Don Bacek were gracious and friendly and some of our most pleasant memories were of wine and conversation on the beautiful outside deck overlooking the woods.

The breakfast the first time we stayed was continental but has since been changed to a full breakfast. At all times, it was delicious. We especially enjoy the homemade granola and breads.

The rooms were accomodating and the choice of themes was fun, insuring that return visits were different with different rooms.

The pool is beautiful and the hot tub welcome. The grounds are spacious and allow you an opportunity to just wanter.

All in all, we would highly recommend a stay here.

This is a case of "Looks great on the web, not so good in person."

Wife & I stayed here for a weekend and based on the price ($150/night) we were expecting a romantic, upscale experience... not super-lux, but a least comparable to a Hyatt or Doubletree. In reality, this place is just a notch above a Super 8... just a place you can sleep at, with a few perks.

I first booked the Venetian room, but upon arrival we realized it was so tackily decorated that my wife said that any of the other rooms would be better. Well, the Geisha room is even worse, but that was the only other one available. The decoration can only be described by this: "it's like sleeping in an attic." Individual furnishings may be OK by themselves, but when put in combination with other non-matching furniture, it's weird at best and nauseating at worst. ALL the rooms are like that. (We were there early and most of the doors were already open, so we peeked in.) Granted, some folks may think this is the cat's meow, but an interior decorator would probably consider this the seventh ring of hell.

The first night we tried to consule ourselves by the thought that "Maybe the breakfast will be really good." We could barely keep from just snickering we went downstairs and served ourselves "Corn Pops" on their nice China. The breakfast was this: choice of a miniture cereal box or granola, OJ, coffee, cheese biscuit, pound cake, and muffin. That's it. I'm not leaving anything out. I've had much better breakfasts at a Hampton or Holiday Inn.

On the plus side, they do have a great outdoor pool filled with clean spring water. It's outlined in stone and has a pretty 7 or 8 foot waterfall. It's a way from the lodge and surrounding by woods. Very peaceful. The hot tub is nearby but is surrounding by the walls from an outdoor enclosure. The pool was definitely their best feature, but it's so cold that you really only want to use in the heat of the day.

They do have a small DVD/VHS collection which you can borrow, but the TV's in the room are mind-boggling small. CRT's that are 12" max. We actually used my laptop instead, it has bigger screen and it's just a 15" PowerBook.

Other lowlights:
Outdoor stairs to our 3rd floor room were decaying wood and were very scary
Kitchnette in our room had "vintage" appliances... an avocado stove definitely "unique"
Rooms on second floor had extremely bad sound proofing. We could hear every word of a low conversation next door.
The expected afternoon Hor 'deorves turned out to be homemade cookies. We were never offered port or a beverage as advertised

Summary:
Look, I could have gotten a much better experience at the Holiday Inn Express, and it would have been 100/night not 150. Dahlonega is a great little town with lots of interesting history, restaurants, & shops, but Lily Creek Lodge is not the place to stay. Spend a little more and stay at Mountain Laurel Creek, or spend less and do a hotel.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Lily Creek Lodge recently and I found it to be terrribly overpriced at $135 plus tax for a night in the Secret Garden room. Well, this room had two windows: one view was blocked by stairs and the other was blocked by a tree. Maybe that's why they call it the Secret Garden: you can't see the garden. The furnishings looked like they were bought from a yardsale, the air conditioner was not working properly, and the walls were thin enough to hear conversations next door.

This inn is quirky, eclectic, a little kitchy, charming. Some of the furnishings are a bit dated and evoke a flea-market, but overall it works. The owners are exceptionally friendly. The night we were there the owner and most of the guests spent several hours talking, playing games and socializing well into the night on the back porch (this was a little loud to my husband who was trying to read upstairs). The owner also introduced us to bocce and was generous in his coaching and reffing of innumerable games (he's a stickler!). We had an enjoyable stay.

we didn't expect a split toilet seat when we checked into our room. it was not replaced the two days we stayed even though it was reported. quite nasty. the rest of this property is lovely and we enjoyed our stay in this mountain retreat.
