Spent a morning on the way to Dahlonega at the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve. The employees went out of their way to help us get the most out of our visit. Most animals you can see very close. A few are a little far back from the fence to see very well but over all it was a great experience. While some animals are in big roomy areas a few are in the typical zoo type pens that bother me. However, you can tell they really care for the animals here. It was very clean and the animals did not seemed distressed. The kids loved to get up close to the camel. One of the employees showed us the black bear cub they have who is very playful. While we were watching him in the nursery, he was trying to get into the pen with some small monkeys. The big cats were impressive to see. The grounds were very nice and well kept. I would say you can see the whole place in 1 hour easy but we would go back to certain animals the kids liked and took a little longer. Beware, the bathrooms are portapotties, no sinks, no drinks or snacks. Bring your own if you have little ones.
