What I liked about this mine is that they focused on education. First, they take you on a tour of the old mine, which is excellent. Then, they teach everyone how to pan for gold, and I felt I actually learned how to do this. Afterwards, everyone can sift for gems. Now the gem buckets are seeded from other mines, so this is not an "authentic" experience, but again it was a learning experience. The young man who helped us identified all the stones for us and explained their characteristics. We invested in a more expensive bucket--$30--and it was worth it. We found amethyst, a ruby, sapphire, aquamarine, and garnet.
