“Worth checking out”

Nice little museum in the center of the square in Dahlonega. Great little history lesson on the first gold rush in America. And the history of the area.

“Great place to visit for history buffs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

I visited this museum on a recent trip to Dahlonega. I learned so much from the displays, film, and museum staff. I knew some of the history of gold in the area but I did not know a U.S. mint was here. The diving bell they used is also fascinating. It is a short walk from the museum to visit the diving bell. What a wonderful piece of history! A must see if you are in the area.

“Worth Seeing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Small museum but lots of information on the Gold Rush including a short film. Great for adults and teens (especially if you're doing a school paper on the Gold Rush). A great visit if you're into history.

“Geat place to visit for all.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

The building is fantastic and the history of the building is being preserved. The individuals that work there went out of their way to answer our questions and and spent time with us to tell us the building history before it became the museum. I am very interested in the history of the area and the buildings. I was shown an area not open to the pubic where you can see the bricks that have not been touched over time and you can see the gold in the bricks shining through. Great place to start your Dahlonega experience.

“Great History Lesson for the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Was really surprised with the amount & quality of information in this rather small museum. The video shown upstairs is quite an eye opener and you can't leave without feeling you've stepped back in time. The whole town is full of great stories and a lovely town square!
