“Country's Barbecue: Local Favorite Since 1975!”

Country's On Broad

As a Columbus Local, Country's Barbecue has consistently been my favorite restaurant since its opening in 1975. It is well-known for its BBQ beef, pork, & chicken but they also serve buttermilk fried chicken, ham, with lots of country fixings, the absolute BEST sweet tea & more---all in large servings. Also, they have delicious homemade ranch dressing for your salad which may be purchased by the pint to take home. There are three locations in Columbus. The one on Mercury Dr. is "themed" as an old country store, the Broadway one is in an old Greyhound Bus Station complete with old bus that can be dined in, and the Main Street Village one is decorated as a ski lodge. I recommend the original location for the best BBQ Pit taste.

“Awful”

I have been to this location before and thought it was dirty, but not terrible. After dining there this last time I will never go back there again. I don't know how they have passed their health inspections. I made the mistake of using the bathroom before eating and it just made me want to vomit. I have never been anywhere this bad. It has such potential to be a nice diner, but instead of the staff standing around maybe they should do some cleaning on their off time. It is such a waste because the food can be good. Not the best barbecue I've ever eaten, but very good.

We dined at the one in Uptown Columbus. This is located not far from the river in the old downtown. It used to be the bus station, hence the bus station mural and memorabilia. Interesting atmosphere, if not very cozy.

My husband had the barbecued chicken, which arrived blackened. He liked the smoked flavor but the chicken was a bit dry. There were two choices of sauce but neither were barbecue sauce. The yellow one was obviously mustard sauce. However, we didn't expect to find mustard in the red sauce as well. Neither of us liked it. We tried hard to figure out what else it was in it besides tomato products and mustard, but it remained a mystery.

I had the vegetarian plate of green beans with salt pork, skillet apples, cabbage, fries, and barbecue beans. All were good but not great. The sauce in the beans was tomato-ey and did not have a barbecue flavor. The fries were fresh-made and on the limp side, though tasty.

Service was quick, friendly, and attentive.
