Columbus, Georgia

While the price was right, I would not recommend this hotel. My husband and I just PCS'd to the Fort Benning area from overseas. As a new hotel, we thought this hotel would be our home away from home why we got settled. The first several nights, we were forced to stay in a room with a broken toilet seat. (They did offer us another room, but we were traveling with pets and a lot of luggage, so moving rooms would have been extremely inconvenient...we would have preferred they just fixed the seat!) The breakfast they advertise was meager at best (a fruit bowl or a Nutrigrain bar). There are no on-site laundry facilities. The fitness room is nothing more than two treadmills.

“Go to graduation at Ft. Benning!”

Microtel Columbus North

Jun 5, 2008

To all of the family members who are considering attending a graduation ceremony at Ft. Benning, GA: GO!!!!! Your soldier will appreciate it more than you will ever know. If you live far away and think you cannot afford it, dig deep into your wallet. Give up eating out while your friend/relative is in basic training and pocket the money you save. Get a temporary second job! Sell your stuff on ebay. Squeeze into your economy car. If you are unsure of where to stay while you are in the area for family day and graduation day, stay at the MICROTEL NORTH in Columbus. We were greeted warmly by the reception staff and our stay could not have been better. The place is very clean, you get free internet and long distance, and you can exercise in the tidy fitness room. It is just off Hwy 185 at Exit 12. Ft. Benning is a short 15 minute drive straight south on 185. (Tip: If you place your Family Day Invitation visible on dash/ through windshield of your car, and have your photo IDS ready, you will get through the Ft. Benning gate quicker.) The Microtel is in a very safe area, north of the city. We were given hand written directions by the desk clerk to the Columbus Park Crossing shopping/restaurant area off Veterans Parkway. Over the two-day period of Family Day and after graduation, we went to this area and shopped at Staples, Barnes & Noble, got a haircut at Great Clips, and ate at Red Lobster, Chili's and Jason's Deli. There is also a Mellow Mushroom Pizza place on Veterans that is awesome. A new Wal-Mart is just across the street from Chili's; some of the soldiers we knew were buying additional luggage to take to their AITs. In all, our soldier had ten family members cheering him on, and the Microtel was our home away from home. The beds are amazingly comfortable, and we requested the top floor because we are light sleepers. We had no noise from the road or other rooms. (Pets are only allowed on the first floor...) Be forwarned: If you are into healthy breakfasts, you might grab your own bagels, granola or fresh fruit before arriving. Theirs is more along the line of packaged pastries and juice boxes....however, my Twinkie-loving husband thought he had died and gone to Heaven. And I grabbed a fruit cup for later in the day. Good coffee....tasty little muffins...fridge and microwave in the room. Make your reservation NOW. Enroll in the Microtel rewards club and you will get a free night for every 9 stays. Support your soldier! Reserve your room today!!

“The BEST Microtel Ever!”

Microtel Columbus North

Apr 28, 2008

I would like to start off that this is not only the Best Microtel ever, it is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, in a while. I was visiting my cousin for Family Day in Fort Benning. I loved this hotel the interior space was designed fresh and new and the smelled great. the 3 days that I was there I saw not only the staff but the GM cleaning all the time keeping it fresh and new. I know that this hotel is fairly new but I have been in hotels that were newer and not kept this clean. The rooms were completely kept clean I had a wonderful time there. The staff made me feel so welcome it was insane and genuine. Not creepy nice, Honest nice. I think the 2 GMs are Husband and Wife and they were great also. The way I saw them taking care of everyone and remembering previous guest names. I really enjoyed this place. I will say the Cont. Breakfast isnt the best but again I drove over to IHOP which was 2 miles away and had fullfilling break fast, The hotel only has Cont Breakfast however next door has HOT breakfast and they are double the price. LOL seriously. I would recommend this place to anyone. I think all the precious bad reviews are because somebody woke up on the wrong side of the Bed. Speaking of beds I have to get the bed that they have at this place. The Manager said that there were Sealy Pillowtops. I think that if you are a Family or someone passing through you should stay at this Microtel, awesome rates and awesome people check it out for yourself

“Clean, Yes, Value? Not for business”

Microtel Columbus North

Apr 22, 2008

Ok, so as a disclaimer, I am currently at this hotel and felt an absolute necessity to write a review because my stay is so awful.

For starters, lets go over a very quick 2 IMPORTANT details.
First, the wireless internet at this hotel, is spotty (I actually have to manually assign myself the IP and other details) and horrible at best. As a business traveler, its about the only amenity that I truly look for. This hotel was built only in 2007 and actually still has wired rooms, and lousy wireless. Go figure.

Second, if you book this hotel, please tell them that you do NOT, repeat, NOT want room 214. This rooms windows are placed directly above the lobby, and in front of two halogen lights that shine into your room all night. Even with the blinds, it barely is dark enough to sleep. So avoid this room at all complete costs.

Now I am an extremely easy going traveler. Cleanliness is VERY important, and this hotel certainly has it. No complaints there. Its bright, and clean, and smells fantastic. I believe this can be an overiding factor for some, but there are just too many negatives here to have this be a deciding factor for me.

Please don't expect to be full, or satisfied with the continental breakfast either. I sound so disgruntled writing this, but I just feel as it I was semi-mislead from the website.

Synopsis: (as if anyone is still reading...)

-Clean, Friendly, Smells great
-Wireless only in lobby
-Only some 'wired' rooms
-Non-satisfying continental breakfast
-Horrible coffee... (hey, as a morning lover and business traveler, it matters.)

If you made it through the whole review, congrats.

“Definitely worth the money!”

This is a very new microtel. It is very clean and modern. The lobby is spacious with a large screen HD TV. The staff was nice and the rooms were just as expected with wonderful beds and pillows. Although there isn't much at this exit, there are plenty of restaurants 5 minutes away. This is a great value for the money. We only paid 67.50 plus tax and more than got our money's worth.
