“Not what I expected”

Atlanta Marriott Airport

After reading the fantastic reviews on this site, I decided that this was it--this was the hotel that I must stay in for my visit to ATL. It seemed perfect: 4-star hotel, relatively cheap pricing, plasma tv, nice bedsheets, etc. However, when i arrived at the location, i soon realized that the area where the hotel is located is dead. It is nowhere near any attractions, local food venues, or even a fast food joint. The hotel is in a very green area, but driving towards the location, it looks isolated and somewhat scary--especially at night. This didn't bother me so much, since I grew up in urban areas so I'm used to it, but I think that other travelers would be interested in knowing this particular detail.

The hotel is big--perhaps too big for its own good. The hotel staff is very friendly. They accordingly accommodated us to our room. The bed sheets were indeed as nice as the reviews here: they were soft and made you want to go into a deep sleep.

Upon arriving to our room, my mom decided to make a phone call to let her friend known that we had arrived to our destination. Five minutes into her phone call, we heard banging on the wall. I didnt think much about it, until i realized that right next door there was a couple fighting. The walls MUST be paper thin because you could hear everything. It seemed like an earthquake at times.

The hotel staff switched us to a different room after we notified them about what was going on. However, when we arrived to the new room, we realized that the ceiling was messed up. It seemed that it must have been leaking before and they tried to cover it up, but it was not covered up properly. It looked like if i was to touch it, the ceiling would completely fall on me. Check pictures to see what it looked like, if you are curious. Later the next night, I found a bug in the hotel bathroom. We complained the next morning, and a staff member just apologized and said "is there anything I can do to make your stay any pleasant?" but we were kind of in a hurry to leave that we didn't really have the time to ask for anything. The thing that rubbed me the wrong way about complaining was that the staff member didn't allow us to complain directly to the manager or supervisor.

Overall, the hotel was okay, but I would definitely not stay there again. It was very noisy and a bit inconvenient for me. I think my review is being a bit too nice; i know that if some of you experienced the same thing, you would be giving this hotel 1 star and wouldn't have stayed there for the whole week.

“Don't trust to Marriott quoted rates!”

Atlanta Marriott Airport

This is a very nice hotel - BUT be warned. We spent our first night in the USA at the senior rate of $79. We enjoyed the hotel so much, we booked for our return night via the hotel's direct telephone in the lobby. I asked again for the senior rate of $79 and the telephone operator confirmed the rate.

However, upon our second stay, as usual, during the night the bill was slipped under our door but it showed $169.

Despite our protests, despite letters to the company, Marriott insist they quoted £169, NOT $79. One member of staff also replied that they really didn't know how we got a $79 rate on the first day and why hadn''t we checked the email confirmation?
(Does anyone check their emails on holiday?)

So be warned. Get everything in writing, do not trust to any telephone booking or word of mouth when you choose a Marriott.

For a hotel chain the size of Marriott their behaviour is reprehensible and untrustworthy. We will never again stay at one on principal.

“Enjoyed my stay!”

Atlanta Marriott Airport

I stayed here overnight when I had a recent early flight. I paid $98 with a deal to leave my car for seven days. This was a good deal for me and it worked beautifully.
I used the valet parking and the shuttle to and from the airport. I had absolutely no wait in either direction and both times the valet staff was attentive and helped me with my bags and answered my questions. The hotel check-in and check-out experience was fast and I had the room I requested, along with a robe (unexpected) and a coupon for a free coffee. The room had the usual amenities along with a shoeshine machine in the room, a huge flat panel television, and magazines to read.
I ordered room service twice and my only complaint is that the portions were so large! They forgot my glass of chardonnay on one order but apologized and promptly delivered it. The room was quiet and the bed comfortable. I was very pleased with my experience at the hotel. I would highly recommend this property.

“Loved the Pool!”

Atlanta Marriott Airport

Apr 7, 2008

We just returned from Atlanta, GA, and enjoyed every minute of it. From the front staff, valet drivers, and other staff, we enjoyed Atlanta's Marriott Airport Hotel. Every day our beds were made, the pool and jacuzzi areas were great. We swam in very cool, clean water. Although we didn't eat in the hotel, one of our travelling partners did and she enjoyed the steak house. It was nice that the hotel had 4 restaurants inside of it. The only problem we had was our wireless internet was a little problematic, but once we informed the front office, they immediately sent staff up and help us set up the wireless (it was not the hotel's issues, it was user (my roommate's not understanding how to access it). We found the beds very comfortable (each bed had 5 pillows) and there were extra pillows and covers in the room. The bathroom amenities were great and the entire room was perfect. No cracks, no issues, every day it was heaven! We felt like we were in a resort and we only spent $89 / night. The valet drivers always were smiling and even though we keep going out for things and they had to drive around the car again, they never complained. We had no problem getting our luggage out of the room on the last day (it was an early check out like 3 AM) and we still had a staff member with a smile on her face. I found myself definitely book marking this one as a hotel to return to for my next trip back to Atlanta. You won't be disappointed.

“Atlanta Airport Marriott - Wish we could have stayed longer”

Atlanta Marriott Airport

Apr 7, 2008

Tucked into a park-like setting, the Marriott is just 1 1/2 miles from the airport but a world apart from most "airport" hotels.

We arrived near midnight, not realizing that the room we had booked through Priceline was a double. The friendly staff member switched us to a King without any hassle. She also offered us a late check-out for the next day. (Perhaps we looked tired?).

The room was spacious, comfortable and up to date with a flat-screen TV and upscale linens.

The only criticism we had was the parking fees.
Valet parking was $12, self-park $8.00. While we recognize that many hotels do charge for parking, it's one of those little pet peeves. Given the overall positive experience, paying for parking would not discourage us from staying there again.
