Another pleasant business-trip surprise. A co-worker and I were booked into a nearby hotel in College Park. She checked in a day earlier than I and called me rather disappointed (and nervous -- she didn't feel safe.) I told her I've give a shot at finding something else for tthe rest of the trip and once again, lucked out on Priceline. When we arrived at the Holiday Inn the next day, we were both relieved to be in a pretty nice hotel.
First surprise -- a hotel bar. Apparently a feature of the Holiday Inn "Select" hotels -- a step up from their Express locations.
At a business hotel, most of the service interaction is at the front desk, and , who was manning the post all the afternoons/evenings we were there was pleasant, mellow, and hardworking, taking care of all phone calls, check-ins, and the convenient sundry store in the lobby.
The house restaurant is not great shakes, but the bar is as mellow, friendly, and welcoming as the front-desk service, and like I said, a welcome rarity in an airport business hotel like this.
Now for the room breakdown, working our way in:
Bathroom: Top notch, and one of the most unique doors I have seen -- it opens in to optionally close (and lock/latch) to separate off the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. Also a unique shower -- you walk in and turn a corner -- no curtain needed. Fog-free shaving mirror to boot.
Desk/workspace: 3 outlets -- big plus. Phone with caller ID (another personal first for this class of hotel). Wired (not wireless, except for the lobby) Internet -- no CAT-5 cable supplied.
Bed: Not the nearly ubiquitous "fluffy cloud" of the Hampton Inns/et. al., but not bad. Miss the down pillows though. One available outlet on the window side for the CPAP'ers out there.
TV: OnCommand is taking over the universe (see my other posts.). Moderately-older tube TV.
Room in general: Ample closet, with clean/new iron and board. Built in safe, along with those white-mesh closet organizer shelves (shades of my first apartment...) Updated-feeling decor. Carpets/paint very clean.
All in all, a good place to stay. A others have said -- clean, nice breakfast -- up there in this genre, minus maybe the bed.
(Oh, and as I alluded to in the title of this review -- if you get a room on the back side, you have a nice view of the places coming in over the trees for landing.)
