I had paid for my room in advance through Orbitz, from October 20 through October 22 (three nights). I arrived at around midnight on Thursday night; it took me almost two hours to get there from the airport, because the shuttle did not come to the designated pick-up spot, although the Days Inn receptionist told me every time I called (every 15 minutes) that it would be there in 5 minutes. When I got to the motel, the receptionist who was then on duty informed me that I had no room guaranteed, because there might be hurricane evacuees arriving (Wilma) that would have preference. How is it possible that I could have a room paid for in advance and then be turned away at midnight after arriving to check in? I insisted that he honor my reservation, and he finally gave me a room but repeatedly told me how "lucky" I was. I found this absolutely insulting.
The room itself was totally run down--the sink faucet was almost detached from the sink, the bathroom was mildewy, and the entire floor carpeting was damp. The heater blew only room-temperature air. The TV remote had no batteries and the front desk had none to replace them. I requested a wake-up call for the next morning but it did not come through because the phone was unplugged (I didn't think to check to verify that is was plugged in, since the plug was not visible). Both dresser drawers were broken and unusable--one would not open at all, and the other fell out every time it was opened.
The next day I was at a conference all day in Atlanta and when I returned at night I found that the room had not been cleaned--the bed was unmade, the towels were dirty, etc. I complained but got no satisfactory answer. (In addition, my key no longer worked in the door and had to be re-programmed, which was annoying.)
I reserved a shuttle for the next morning so I could get to the airport MARTA station, but in the morning when I went to get the shuttle I found it was not there and NO NOTE HAD BEEN MADE of my request even though the receptionist had assured me she was writing it down. Since it took half an hour for the shuttle to arrive, I missed an important meeting at the conference I was attending that morning.
Getting back that night (again, after an hour and a half waiting for the shuttle at the airport while the receptionist told me lies about how soon it would arrive) I found the room had been cleaned BUT no fresh towels at all had been provided, no soap, shampoo, cups, etc. I again reserved a shuttle for the morning--this time leaving an extra hour, luckily, since again it was late.
This level of service at this motel is absolutely unacceptable. I have never stayed in a motel so badly run. The receptionists seem to say anything they want to appease the customer regardless of whether it is true, and the cleaning standards are horrendous. I felt disrespected and stressed, and my trip to Atlanta was very unpleasant because of this.
