“Affordable, pretty alternative to chain hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

This property is pretty and unique, comprised of several cottages of varying sizes plus four motel-style room units. We stayed in unit 4, a simple, small but clean room with two double beds.
Decor was DIY country style. (I liked the hand painted effects in the bathroom.) When we were there the dogwood trees were in bloom and the parking spot in front of our room was carpeted with pink petals -- a touch you won't find at a Comfort Inn! This place is rustic, clean, and provides the basic comforts. It is not boutique; it is genuine rural Georgia, in a beautiful, mountainous corner of the state. Low rates make this place a bargain.

The first day we arrived I knew we had made the right choice. Just driving up and seeing quaint beauty and we manicured landscape brought a smile to my face. Then as a took in the total package of the pristine cottages not to mention the sweet set of 4hotel rooms. They had the good since to save them. After meeting Frank the owner, I learned he started from scratch, poured his heart into bringing the lost era of hotel back to life. Well he did that and more! each room has it's own theme. The rooms are spotless. Nice kitchen area and the shower in our room "The Dogwood" is awesome. You gotta try it. And last but not least by ant means Miss Sue who manages Mountain Aire Cotteges is so nice and friendly. The best by far all around. We will be back many times I'm sure. Can't wait to see the area in the fall! Let's just say we will stay cozy and happy. Thanks Frank for giving so much of yourself to this wonderful place.

Room Tip: Any room that meets your needs will please.

We have spent the third week in October every year for 10 years at Mountain Aire Cottages. We've stayed in individual rooms (The Mountain Lodge and The Dogwood Room) cottages (The Mountain View Cottage and The Clear View Cottage) and also the Hillside House . All of these accommodations were cozy, clean and well equipped. From the very first visit we were treated more like family than lodge guests. Frank (Inn Keeper) and his family make Mountain Aire Cottages our second home. The beauty of the surrounding Clayton area is just icing on the cake. We look forward to our stay all year long.

After checking in at 3 and resting for an hour, our child and I began sneezing, coughing, and eyes watered. Son got an asthma attack. We showered, thinking it must have been something from outside. Went to dinner, child got a little better, came back, child got worse again. Spotted mold on furniture. Smelt like a cat through the air vent. Had to check out within 4 hours of checking in. Came home feeling better, opened luggage and eyes started watering again. Had to wash everything and throw away bags and containers that had been in there. Otherwise, it was a cute motel. We chose it specifically because they do not allow pets or smoking.

Room Tip: Good place if you have no allergies or asthma

Upscale and Affordable, The Gem of the Mountains, Family owned and operated, 11 years of quality service and personal attention to details, Perfect score of 100 at each and every County inspection for 11 years!! This and more is what you will find at Mountain Aire Cottages & Motel, so it is with great disappointment that I read the July 9th traveler review. We are a small property, so I know intimately each Motel Room and Cottage, and upon hearing of a complaint by this particular guest, I personally inspected the Motel Room from top to bottom. Neither Pets or Smoking are EVER allowed in our Motel or Cottage Interiors. We do have Maxine and Midnight, our 2 outside cats that most all of our guests love and ask for by name when they return year after year, but again, NEVER allowed inside. One side of a night stand in this guests room had a small amount of mildew on a back leg and side, which I promptly cleaned, likely because not all Rooms rent out each night, and it had been raining most afternoons. I smelled no odor. I urge all readers to weigh the overwhelming number of positive reviews against this one negative review, and I personally invite anyone coming to visit our beautiful Rabun County to visit our lovely property for Clean, top quality, family owned and operated lodging. Mountain Aire Cottages, The Gem of the Mountains!!
Thank you.

Just outside of Clayton's downtown, on the side of a wooded hill, is the delightful Mountain Aire motel. A friendly greeting awaits you from both Frank, the owner, and Abigail the spaniel. The rooms are just as welcoming - large and comfortable, individually decorated (my room had a bear theme), with a kitchenette and small dining area as well. The big comfy queen bed was perfect after a long days' drive. My only regret? I couldn't stay longer!

Mountain Aire Cottages is a welcome surprise. The old (totally updated) 40s-50s style motel with small buildings with four rooms each is not what you might imagine as a great place to stay. This one, though, was under gorgeous foliage among the trees. It was quiet. The rooms were immaculate. There were nice details, like a bathroom with hand painted walls, and a flat screen television. It made you feel right at home, as did the owner who is quite personable. If you are in the area, do not hesitate to stop in (good spot to avoid driving to Highlands, NC on the twisty roads when you are tired, too!).

My wife and I had to attend a wedding on Black Rock Mountain in Clayton, Georgia last week and wanted a place to stay that was close. The bridr recommended Mountain Aire Cottages based on how upscale and affordable the units were and that they had been newly remodeled. To our surprise, the place is story book appealing and spotlessly clean. The owner, Frank Lastra, is one of the nicest inn keepers that you will ever meet.
We are definitely going back in the spring time when all the north Georgia mountains are in full bloom with dogwoods and azaleas, You can contact the hotel at 770-782-9568. This is a cozy and wonderful place to stay away from the rush of Atlanta. You can also drive 3 miles north to the Dillard House for great dining.
