“Decent hang out that needs to update their menu a little.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

The staff is always friendly and it's a good, central location for drinks or a quick bite, but the menu lacks anything that could be considered great, even just stellar bar food. The French fries always taste a little stale. The fish plank from the fish and chips is like Captain D's on steroids. For a small restaurant, there's no reason to use a giant frozen fish plank, instead make them the special when you can get fresh fish to use. The Long Island Ice Teas will is perfect (and strong!), but they could use a better margarita and a bigger by the glass wine selection. Don't miss their St. Patrick's Day party in the square!

“Leave before 11 if you are over 25.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012 via mobile

It's a nice place, but after 11 it turns into a bar for the local college kids. The food is okay, but better places if you leave the area.

“Good location, so-so food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2010

This restaurant is a basic, burger, sandwich place. It's more of a bar as the night gets later. I got a good meal for my money but wasn't impressed enough to want to go back.

“Good choice if you want a beer and burger”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2010

Irish Bred is a pretty good pub and sports bar downstairs and a good late night disco upstairs. Irish Bred is supposedly a franchise, but I have never seen another location. The Irish aspects of the concepts are signs on the wall and the large beer choices, with several microbrews and European beers on tap. The food is mostly American casual dining (nachos, wings, sandwiches, salads etc.) with a few upgrades along the way (they do daily specials such as bleu cheese steaks or special desserts) and a few nods to Ireland (fish and chips, Sheppard’s pie). All of the food is consistently good, the burgers and chef salad are the best in town. Service is very good until about 9 pm, and then become spotty. The location changes its focus from a downstairs restaurant to an upstairs disco bar around 10 pm. Unless you want to play trivia, skip trivia night as the place is packed and food/service is intermittent at best. Always ask about beer prices as they move around from week to week. Many times you can get a pitcher of microbrew for $7-8, other nights it is $14. If you are on a student budget, there is usually a $5 pitcher available and the nachos and burgers are big enough to share. There is plenty of free parking in the area, with one and soon to be two free parking garages within a block. You may need to walk a block from parking to the restaurant, but the area is very safe. Also, be aware when the location is 18+, after 10 pm, they allow smoking.

“Great Service from a nice neighborhood pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2010

Ate here with coworkers on Sat. March 27th 2010 to wind up a business trip to the area. Our waiter ( forgot his name, black hair and goatee) was exceptionally friendly and professional. The location is great too, on the main square in downtown Carrollton. The only negative is that parking is limited, but we only had to park half a block away. Granted that all we had was beer and wings, but they were tasty, hot (and cold for the beer), and promptly delivered. I would happily return for another round at this pub.
