I am a ChoiceOne Elite Gold Member (not currently since it resets every year).. I had two nights scheduled with the inn because of many family issues and last minute plan.. Came into GA early in the morning and dealing with my father's medical issue and was up from pre-dawn (before 6 am) until 8pm that night. The Hotel look modern and clean and I came into our room (206 or 208.. BTW, we are near the lobby and breakfast area).. Everything looked clean until my wife and I went into the bathroom.. There was a cockroach.. I killed it and hope it was an one time incident (of course, I should know better). I believe the cockroaches are coming out of the electrical outlet (they cut too much that there is an opening on the wall where I could see the inside of the wall). I saw another cockroach again when going to the bathroom and killed it but I am too exhausted to go downstairs and ask for a room change (this being 11pm+ and I need to wake up again before 6am to go back to the hospital/rehab). I crashed in 2 minutes later (from what my wife told me).. I admit my wife should have woke me up to tell me (though the little sleep was A LOT MORE important and a BIG MATTER the next day) but she didn't for my precious sleep. She hates insects so much that she would not be able to sleep or go into the bathroom (every time she was checking the bathroom, she saw a cockroach or two).. At the end, when I woke up (the following morning) and she told me the incident.... Again, it seems like the cockroach stayed in the bathroom and not in the main hotel room (if it didn't, my wife would freak out)...
We went downstairs and filed a complaint with their general manager. Being the weekend, he is not present. I wrote a long room explaining on the matter and they moved us to different room.. (Again, no time to switch and look for another hotel and it was already booked with money already withdraw). They moved us to Room 215 (or 225)... So anyone reads this know, It was such an issue that my wife who wanted to shower DID NOT SHOWER nor the toilet (do not know how she does that but guess fear could go the other way)... To add, the new room's electrical outlet on the bathroom does not have the space and no cockroaches.. We showered but they never went into our room to do any room service (so again... They switch out the room and you would think room service should at least check our room for towels.. Nope)...
To end the story short, the manager calls on Monday (after we already checked out because I had another day, the third, of medical paperwork and applications to complete and can't wait for him to show up at 11am). He called to say he apologizes but his conversation afterward and the way he states things was clearly not... In actuality, he stated why don't you get a camera shot of the cockroach... That was our mistake and I would do that but if my wife don't want to get near them (and would call me to kill a spider or fly.. You think she is going to take a picture? Remember.. I am asleep beyond exhaustion)... Honestly, you can't believe a Elite Gold MEMBER on his own word on the matter? If I am a complainer, you would see my history of complaints on Choice Hotel history of my Elite GOLD MEMBER.. Honestly, why would a privilege member go to your hotels if I have nothing but to complain? At the end, he kept babbling how his hotel is the 3rd cleanest, ORKA comes to do testing about insects, etc.. Those were clear indications that he did not believe our comments... It was very disrespectful when you should just be sorry.. A choice privilege member with history of $$ in going to your hotels and this is the spill I get? Honestly, if he was really sorry and then offer his compensation (1000 choice one points) would be the end of it.. But he wasted my time trying to defend his hotel at the expense of my point and my time? At the end, I believe he thinks I am lying... He thinks the resolution of just moving us at that moment was a best resolution (AT midnight when I am already sleeping). He must be crazy... If any, the whole point of me there is to sleep.. Not to deal with cleanliness issue... Or discuss about it when it is clear that cockroaches were present... Again, his resolution does not address my sleep... Giving me 1000 choice rewards after his babbling was inexcusable..
Honestly, how many people would ever stay after experiencing this? Would you want choice reward points? Honestly, if it was bad service... You would not come back and want a refund of some sort.. He would not... That is my whole point! We were adamant about the matter.. All he did (Mr. Hussein) was caring about his hotel reputation at the expense of customers like me going to your hotel... Inside of being sincere and man up, he didn't and try to make "indirect accusation" that it is our fault... That we should call them right away.. I made a choice... More sleep or move and lose sleep.. Sleep was more important.. My wife was the other way but she knew my sleep was important (I am the one driving btw).. If there was no cockroach.. No issue PERIOD! But inside, there was and Mr Hussein's solution does not provide a solution but trying to cast blame on the customers... I hate to write this but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING THERE...
