“" Tropical Inn in Brunswick, GA is filthy. DO NOT STAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2010

I satayed @ this hotel Thursday Nov 11. I checked in around 9.am. room ; Tropical Inn 450 Warren Blvd, Brunswick, GA 31520.
I was very tired and went to several Hotel in the area, but only Tropical Inn would let me check in during that time which I was very pleased. Of course being real tired I went straight to sleep. I did notice the hotel was very out dated and the room wasn't the cleanest Ive stayed in. After noticing several things in the room I didnt notice when checking in, I called Front desk to ask If I could leave w/O being charged, which the manager denied. So I asked can I have another room, and the manager denied that also. He wouldnt even come to see the condition of the room. He was very rude to me and wasnt sincere about me telling him the conditions of the room. So I had no choice but to stay. Things I've pointed were Brken lamps, Dirty lamp sheds, Urine rings on Box spring mattress, Dirty pillows which held dried blood spots on them, rusty shower polls which I also took photos of that are included in this email. Room also had a strong odor. After being told I couldn't leave I deciced to take the bed sheet to place over box spring to hide dirty urine spots and I found things under the mattress. I got the impression pets have been in the room.

Overall, I would never stay @ this property again. Manager not sincere and not concerned of condition of his rooms being sold. Room was DIRTY!!! and should not be rented out.

“Just a place to sleep before heading to Raleigh, NC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2009

I was looking for a budget hotel south of Savannah, GA after a day of driving. I just wanted a decent room so I could sleep before heading out the next day. I stopped at the Welcome Center rest stop and picked up one of the free hotel guides and chose this hotel because it was the cheapest for the area I was to end up that day.

I wouldn't really call it a budget hotel at $53.76 w/taxes for a double smoking room, but it was Good Friday (which I had forgotten) so it wasn't too bad. No singles were available.

The room wasn't spotless by any means and the bathroom was not up to par so I skipped the shower the next morning. But it wasn't one of those "I wouldn't dare take my socks off" kind of rooms.

The advertised breakfast was barely that with small donuts, white bread for toast, coffee, tea and condiments.

The staff was friendly.

“Bloody mess! Stay Away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2009

I arrived at the hotel after driving most of the night just before 6:30am on the 17th and requested a room with a single bed till the morning of 18th. I was originally given a handicapped room and since this is a Motel where you park in front of your room this meant all the parking spaces in that group of rooms were marked handicapped spaces. Being that I am not handicapped I was not going to park in a handicapped space so I went to the office to inquire if they had any other rooms. The desk attendant advised they only had one other single room but they didn’t like to give to anyone under 50 years old, I am 29. She did reluctantly give me the room and asked me to try to not let any of the other guests in that building see me. I thought that was completely absurd but I was tired so I took the room key.

I put my stuff in the room and went to bed but after a half hour I was awakened by the people next to me leaving. There apparently was not any sort of insulation or sound deadening material in the walls as I could hear every sound outside as if the window were open. This included the tire shop across the street. After the people in the room next to me left their phone rang several times which was clearly heard through the paper thin walls. Even though I had closed the curtains there was still quite a bit of light coming into the room around the curtains and the door that was obviously also too small for the doorframe as light was coming in around all four sides

Just before 10am I gave up on trying to sleep and got up. I was disgusted to
find a large stain on the sheets that I had been sleeping on. Since the room was dark when I went to bed I had not seen it when I pulled back the covers. It was rather large about a foot in diameter and the sheet had holes in it within the stain. Whatever made the stain had also eaten holes in the fabric. It should have been very noticeable to whoever made the bed. When I began to walk around barefoot the floor was sticky in some spots and it felt and looked very dirty as if it had never been cleaned. There was something brown smeared on the wall near the bathroom that looked to be brown gravy or chocolate. Hopefully it was not feces. I found a blood splatter about a quarter of an inch in diameter on the outside of the bathroom door. The bathroom floor was stained a brownish yellow color in front of the tub and it felt slimy when walking on barefooted. The shower had several holes in the bottom of the tub that had been filled with some sort of glue. There were two stick on type non skid strips on the floor of the tub one of which was loose and slid around under my feet. The strips were definitely needed as the tub was very slippery. I am not very tall (5’10”) yet I had to duck down to rinse my hair, as the showerhead was too low to stand under. When I got out of the shower and grabbed a towel I found a red stain on the edge, it appeared to be more blood. It was still a bright red so it had not been there very long and had gotten on the towel since it was washed last.

Blood on the bath towel was the last straw. I got dressed, packed my things, and called another hotel in the area and made a reservation with them. I went in the office just after 10:30am and explained that I was checking out due to my room being completely disgusting and that the lack of insulation and the location of my room made it too noisy to get any sleep during the day. I also informed the desk attendant about the stains and blood in the room. Even after all that she still charged me $43 for a full nights stay even though I had only been there for just over 4 hours and was leaving due to the room being in such poor condition.

After returning home I emailed Knight’s Inn corporate regarding my brief stay. They forwarded my complaint to the hotel manager. He sent me a rather unprofessional email back stating that I was only complaining in an attempt to get a free stay. Odd accusation considering I didn’t stay there for more than 4 hours. I ended up having to dispute the charge though my bank to get a refund.

Judging by the number of poor reviews I have read on this place I am surprised Knight’s Inn continues to let them use their name.
