“Unpolite Owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2007

My boyfriend and I booked one room for one week in the middle of July '06. Unfortunately an urgent situation back in the office made us leave four days earlier than planned. According the law, we were obliged (and more than willing) to pay 50% of the rest of our booking (2 nights out of the four that we were supposed to stay), but the owner insisted on us paying all four nights, translating into more than 400 euros. He was very unpolite/aggressive and uninformed, and we had to call the tourism police office and request the law to be faxed back to the hotel in order to convince the owner of our rights! After that, he decided to post a warning on his website to cover similar situations ...

Beware sending a deposit to this hotel - you may never get it back if things go wrong. Back in April 2006, we booked a large room, for a week in early October 2006. The deal included car hire. All went well, the reservation staff were very helpful and friendly. A couple of weeks before we were due to stay, we were asked to send a deposit (156 Euro) by bank transfer, before our confirmaton documents would be sent. This we duly did, confiming the payment by fax and the documents were sent. The Bank confirmed all had gone through, and it cost me 30 euro to make the transaction. Three days before we were due to leave the UK, the hotel cancelled our reservation, citing bad weather on the island. We frantically found another hotel (the Petali, which I can thoroughly recommend). I am still trying to get my deposit back. They have promised and promised that they will send it. They have cited 'problems with the credit card POS' among other things. Now, there is just silence. My Bank has also tried, without fail to get my deposit back. SO BEWARE! I'm still waiting. If I get my money back (over £100 UK sterling), I'll update this report.

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights at the Lighthouse, (19-22 Sept)and if it hadn't been for ferry schedules, we would probably have extended our stay.

The accommodation was excellent by Greek standards; clean, secure and spacious. The furniture was all in good condition and they have managed to achieve a good balance of rustic vs. modern feel...the pool area was always clean and well maintained as were the other outdoor areas and reception.

The staff were excellent. They accommodated our late arrival and extra night stay with no fuss and on more than one occasion prepared breakfast for us outside of the normal hours (the breakfast is fantastic and well worth the €10)). They were calm and helpful when we locked ourselves out (with keys in the lock on the inside!)...and they organised our car hire and transfers without incident.

Overall, the Lighthouse has a lovely relaxed feel to it, reflected in the easy nature of the staff and their gorgeous cat and dog. That, accompanied with the amazing location and views made for a fantastic start to our holiday. We only wish we had known this in advance and would have stayed longer.

We stayed at the Lighthouse for 5 nights in July. They were easily the best 5 nights of our trip to the Cyclades,we also visited Milos and Serifos. We stayed in Room 4 which is massive. It as like a home away from home.Beautiful interior, power shower, stone tiled floor,a big double bed(not 2 singles pushed together) and an amazing view.An outside private veranda where we could watch the sunset. The rooms are cleaned every day and if you want fresh towels everyday you can have them. The CD player was well appreciated.Victoria on reception is a lovely girl and she sourced accommodation in Serifos for us after our hotel there double booked us!!The pool is spotlessly clean and has a deep end for diving! I'm not a lover of cats so I kept my distance from the one there but the little pup is cute. However I rarely saw the animals so don't let that turn you off.All in all, a beautiful place to stay and to have some quiet time.Already planning to visit next year.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2006

We stayed at the Lighthouse Hotel for five nights in mid June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Good points:
- the upper-level room we chose was very spacious, clean, light and airy and well-equipped.
- we enjoyed the view over the hills and the sea, as we sat on the private terrace.
- the pool area was large and clean, with plenty of seating
- the staff were friendly and very helpful
- very good value
- plenty of attention from the hotel's puppy and local kitten

Points to consider:
- the hotel is quite remote and car hire is advisable ( although there is a local bus which stops at the end of the road)
- not a great choice of eating places in nearby Faros (in June at least)
- check the ferry's arrival and departure days before you book (low season especially).

We were at the Lighthouse Hotel in Sifnos from 6th to 11th of June. The staying was excellent. Our apartment was very large, with a modern and typical style, very elegant and pleasant. The location is great, near to the nicest beaches (like Fasoulu, don't forget!) and with a fantastic panorama. The rooms are clean, the service is very efficient and the staff very friendly. We had two breakfasts at the hotel, good and rich, then we had three breakfasts in our apartment, where you can find all you need to cook a good dinner, too.
In the apartment you'll find a hi-fi with cd, very relaxing if you bring your own music (the greek radios are not so memorable...).
The pool looks very nice, but we didn't go there. When you are in Greece with a so great sea you can't spend yor time in a pool.
The price was very good, thanks to a special offer with the apartment and the car included (only in june, I think).
Last, but not least, you will find Mythos and Manolis waiting for you every evening: a wonderful dog and a funny cat playing together and very lovely.

Have a great stay in Sifnos and give our kisses to Mythos and Manolis.

A slice of heaven at the Lighthouse in September. We had a beautiful little bungalow, with a comfy bed, roomy accommodations, TV, fridge, stovetop and sink. The porch had a table and chairs, with views of the hills and the sea. It was nearly impossible to pull ourselves away from the tranquil pool. 60E a night.

Can't recommend the Lighthouse enough for peace, tranquility and beautiful accommodations.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Concerning our hotel, all our apartments are spacious (60m2) and exquisitely designed. Each apartment has it's own unique identity in colour and aesthetics. They are definitely comfortable, with large verandas and a view of the Aegean Sea. They are all installed with a kitchenette, fridge, large bathroom, air-conditioning, TV, telephone, radio-CD player and safe and wifi free. Lighthouse Hotel is 700 meter from Faros, a fishermen's village. Faros is, whatever season it is, the stressed big city dwellers ultimate retreat. It is rather a small, cosy and charming fishing village. Despite its small size there is everything you need: two small shops (fresh bread every morning), tavernas, one ouzeria, one coffee bar where you can eat breakfast, very good accommodation and three child-friendly beaches Fassolou, Glyfou and Faros. And everything is so to speak "just around the corner". Sifnos has fairly good public transportation and there is a bus stop only 200 meters from the hotel. If on the other hand you choose to explore the island, Sifnos has many car rentals available. ... more   less
