“No Ritz but the location is awesome and staff are great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2008

Okay, We read the same reviews that are on this website and frankly I always rely on them - they accurate. BUT, there were not any other good choices for Winter Park unless we wanted to go in Orlando. So here are my thoughts:

It's an old hotel. It has an elegant feel as you walk inside and the woodwork is beautiful. Bill, who greeted me and had made the reservation is great and very accomodating. The bellman was very helpful to get bags to room. No complaints.

The room: we got a suite. It's really just a larger room with a nice balcony over Park ave with two nice, plush chairs and a side table. We were pretty busy so we didn't spend much time on the balcony but it was a great place to sit and have coffee and muffins that were sent up that morning. The bed was fine, the pillows okay and the bath room was tiny but very clean. Neighbors need to be respectful of the walls being sorta thin. Think of the hotel as an unmolested throwback from the twenties. I'll stay there again, no doubt, because the location is the best for getting around Winter Park

My family came to this hotel so my sister could visit Rollins, but the hotel's proximity to the college is about all that made it worthwhile. The front desk and courtier deserve awards for their kindness and attentiveness (I was able to look at 7 restaurant menus to pick dinner) but the room itself was a nightmare. Thin walls (I was kept up by traffic all night), a miniscule bathroom, uncomfortable beds, and a musty smell should all be taken into account. While it was okay for a night, I would not recommend this to anyone expecting 5 stars. This was much more like a quaint bed and breakfast than any five star hotel I've been to. Skip it and go for something nicer and actually worth your money.

This hotel was quaint and simple. The rooms were tiny compared to your modern hotel but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom facilities served their purpose. The porch looking over the park was a great place to sip your morning coffee (which was brought to the room with a muffin). The location however, was the best part about the hotel. You didn't have to find parking or walk more than a few feet in any direction to find food or a cute boutique. The hotel staff, especially the valet, were incredible. The hotel is so small, they recognize you immediately.

The only downfall, and it's a significant one, is the noise. The trains, which run behind the hotel are jarring in the middle of the night and they are usually fairly long. The whole room shakes when then go by and the whistle can wake the dead. Also, on a rowdy Saturday night we could clearly hear the patrons leaving the bars. We found that if you turned the air conditioner on, it drowned out the people outside. Nothing cound mask the train though!

I would suggest it for a fun night or two, but if you are staying longer than that the small rooms and loud trains would get uncomfortable.

The best thing about this place is definitely location, location, location. The hotel is slightly faded and a little shabby but with such a prime site on the main street of such a chic little town it was hard to find too much to complain about. Just a little worried by the mousetrap behing the TV but the staff were helpful and friendly and the adjacent bar and restaurant were great and very busy with plenty of atmosphere. Soon got used to alarmingly loud and frequent railway trains running literally feet away but other local attractions, especially the Boat Trip and the Morse Museum were fantastic and great value. I would definitely come back here and spend longer than the 2 nights we stayed.

The hotel is old, but elegant. The bathrooms are very tiny, as is the sitting area. The bed is wonderful. The balcony overlooking Park is great. The service was great. It is different, but being right on the street was perfect. I'm a 5 starrer hotel person and this is not a luxurious room, but it fits with the whole experience of Winter Park. When we closed the balcony door, we heard NO noise from the street nor any trains during the night. They are very evident during the day, but it's nothing. Central Park is beautiful. The people in the shops could not be lovlier. I would recommend this hotel. And I would recommend Winter Park to anyone who can just drive there or take a day trip from Orlando (15 minute drive to a "whole different place"}

My stay at the Park Plaza Hotel was wonderful.
The rooms were delightful. The staff was very friendly and catered to you every need. I stayed in the front balcony suite which over looked Park Ave and the shops. all the shops and restaurants are in walking distance. I highly recommend you to stay here.

Good: the bed was comfortable, sitting on the balcony and watching park ave at night was fun.

Bad: It was overpriced, the front desk was snobby, the bathroom was tiny, and the walls were paper-thin, so we heard every noise which kept us awake for hours.

The only thing good about this place is the location and the balcony. Everything else sucked.
