“Natural Canopy for Canoers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

A great, natural facility. It is its own property that has a campsite( primitive camping for FREE, cabin(s) for a cost). Metal Canoes, single or double kayaks and also ;tube- when the river is high enough- i def. would not recommend it right now.. .
You can rent chair backs for the boats for 3.00, insurance for 1.00 a boat and they have a snack/drink/beer/souverniers shop on site ( cash or credit)
They walk you through the river stretch using pictures, so you feel comfortable on your trip. There are great stopping points to picnic ( or take a quick trail hike!). You go down the river and they pick you up at scheduled pick up times using old school buses.
We saw MANY turtle, and two small gators ( no manatee). There are quite a few small clearings that are between old tree trunks and such, so be prepared to crash a few time.

Thanks for your visit and your nice comments. As you mentioned, we do offer tent and RV camping, cabin rentals and a group tent camp area. We also have a new 2BR 2BA cabin available begining in April 2013. Hope to see you back on the river soon.

Gla you had a nice time on the river. We had had folks ages 1 month to 102 years go out with us and each find a way to enjoy their day on the water paddling. Thanks for your business.

“Great staff, relaxing trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

My girlfriend and I decided to do the outdoor-sy thing and went canoeing at Canoe Outpost on the Little Manatee River. I wasn't aware of all the things they had to offer besides canoeing, such as their campground and cabins, which we'll probably look into next time.

Put-in went very smoothly, launched from a dock. The canoe & gear was in good shape. The trip itself was quite peaceful. No sounds from cars, cell phones, or other people for that matter. Just the wind through the trees and the river. Also, despite it being in the mid 90s, along the river was very comfortable between the tree canopy and water-cooled air. Insects were minimal. I think I received two mosquito bites total, and that's not using any repellant (my fault for forgetting it).

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did warn us that the water levels were a bit on the low side, and indeed they were correct. There were a handful of times we'd end up having to get out of the canoe due to low water levels, but there was only a single time where we actually needed to carry the boat over a sandbar. The other times just us getting out of the canoe was enough to allow it to float over the shallower areas. Quite a few submerged branches that probably won't be a problem when the rains pick up and the water levels rise.

I'd advise other people, especially amateurs (like ourselves!) to call ahead and find out what the water levels are. I'd recommend going when they're a bit higher than they've been (closer to rainy season), as getting in & out of the canoe and having to walk through the water can take a bit out of you. We were planning on doing Trip1, but ended up settling for Trip2 due to how long the first (shallow) part took us to travel.

All in all, a great weekend. We'll definitely be back.

Well what a difference a few days can make. As of 6/1/12, the rains have come, the river is up and we hope you will come and paddle the river again as the experience can be different at each water level. We are glad you enjoyed your trip and thanks for taking the time to post your nice comments.

“Enjoyable trip down the Little Manatee River”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

The Canoe Outpost is easily accessible from Tampa, FL, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. We were advised when we made our reservation that the river was down a good bit and we would be required to get out of the canoe several times during the first hour of the trip to get over the sandbars. And that was the truth!! Not too bad, though, as the water was cool and clear.

After the first hour, the river widened and deepened and we were on our way. There are many submersed trees and logs that you do have to look out for, though. We enjoyed a picnic lunch at a screen enclosed pavilion which has nice ceiling fans to stir up the breeze. That was a plus, as we usually have to make do either eating in our canoe or on the bank of other rivers. A little further down the river are rope swings for those who are more adventurous!! We weren't!!

They were right on time for the scheduled pick-up and for that we were grateful. Again, a very accommodating staff!

Thank you for your review and you nice comments about our staff. We agree that having the pavilion screened in and now having ceiling fans has made for a terific lunch spot on this trip. Thanks to the manager and staff at the Little Manatee River State Park for the nice additions.
We hope you will paddle with us again soon during the season of higher water levels. Maybe next time you'll even try the rope swing!

“Professional and Friendly Staff, Beautiful Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

The crew at Canoe Outpost was terrific. Although our group had not rented boats the guys were still quick to carry our personal kayaks down to the river, and to load them for the shuttle back from the takeout.

Due to low water levels we were given a choice of trips. We opted to paddle a section that required getting out of our boats to pull over sandy shoals several times. But there were no surprises. The guys gave us an honest description of conditions, before we launched, and by phone in the days before our planned trip No hard sell, just "the facts".

And the scenery was beautiful. If you go remember that it's not a race. Enjoy the journey. Relax. Breathe.Take in the surroundings.

This is a great trip for singles, couples, families or groups. Little or no experience required, and the helpful staff will keep you out of trouble on your self-guided adventure.

Thanks a great day on the Little Manatee River Canoe Outpost!
