“Sunday Brunch...first time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

We have been to Tropics to eat several times, but this was our first visit to the Sunday Brunch. We had been recommended by our hotel staff to give it a try and was told we wouldn't e disappointed. Well, this was certainly the case as we truly enjoyed our experience! The Brunch is prix fixe with 2 cocktails (mimosa, screwdriver, or bloody mary) included. The price was $18 and we felt this was quite a bargain considering the two included cocktails and all the food choices that was included on the brunch buffet. A carving station, omelet station, and pre-peeled shrimp were some nice touches on the spread. There were more than enough choices to satisfy anyone in your group. Our group especially loved the baked French Toast. Also, I personally enjoyed the homemade chicken salad as well as the caprese salad. I would recommend you give the brunch a try next time you are at Tropics!

“Rack of lamb”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Although the rack of lamb was prepared just right, there was too little taste. Sad, because it could have been really excellent with the right seasoning. Baked potato with sour cream and butter, mint jelly. Started with a decent clam chowder. Tropics is a mixture of restaurant, bar and piano bar, and at times rather noisy.

Although I'm glad we prepared the lamb right for you, I apologize that the seasoning was off. In the future, please don't hesitate to speak up and let your server know. We want to make sure everyone has a great time here!

“Set your expectations and enjoy it for what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

What is it? Well, it's a piano bar and those can be fun. Sit around the bar in the other room and it's not too loud. Might be a nice place to meet up with friends. Just know that it's a place frequented by an older crowd and that it won't be rowdy. Set your expectations and you might strike up an interesting conversation, be served by attentive servers and fill yourself up with some okay food.

Before our visit, my partner remembered Tropics as a great place, but it's a bit worn and tired. The decor was fresh in the 1980s so it's, er, comfortable. Our food was fine, nothing special, not bad, but fine -- and for a decent price. The wine however was dreadful, even after the waiter comped the first awful glass and brought me a glass of the most expensive one (still awful). As noted, the server was great -- attentive to our issues, comped the awful glass of wine, and incredibly polite.

We're sorry to see that we let you and your partner down. The last thing we want is for a guest to leave feeling disappointed, so I hope that we can have another chance to show you a good time.

Best,
Godfrey & Alex

“Excellent Service and Great Steak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

Dinner with my partner and friends. Service was excellent and spot on. Portions were huge and the drinks are strong just the way I like em. My partners stuffed chicken was a bit rubbery. The live singers were too loud and made it difficult to have a conversation at the table.

Nothing beats a nice strong drink! Although we're glad you enjoyed your meal, Robb, we apologize that your partner's chicken was a little off. In the future, just let us know and we'll be happy to replace it! As for the live singers, we're also sorry they were a bit too loud -- we'll definitely take that feedback to heart.

Cheers,
Godfrey & Alex

“What a Disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

Arrived New Years Day in Ft. Lauderdale and had already made reservations for dinner at the Tropics the week before. The bar was great, as usual, and enjoyed chatting with the bartenders and meeting new faces.
We sat at 7:00 p.m. for dinner and our waiter, Nick, was wonderful and very professional.
We came from NYC and started our day at the airport at 5:00 a.m. so we wanted a nice meal then bed. Unfortunately, the Tropics cooks had other plans for us.
Then the food started to arrive, very-very slowly. I must say that the dinning room was barely 1/3 full at any time we were there. So there wasn't a huge demand on the kitchen staff. The waiter kept apologizing for the delays and the food was atrocious. By the time the entrees arrived they were inedible. We are not complainers but the food was beyond burnt.
The manager came over and apologized and asked us to be patient he will insure new meals come out perfect. But it was now 8:30 p.m. and we waited over an hour for the garbage sent out. I must stay that the manager was embarrassed and said that there would be no charges for anything. But we left and went to Burger King for a couple of burgers.
We have heard others complain about the restaurant being hit or miss. Well this review can be added to the miss category. A shame really.
