“Don't go on weekends”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

It is a no frills cavern that has started showing its age. We stopped off on our way to Key Largo to relive an old trip we took. We came here because Ginnie Springs was flooded. If you go on a weekend, be prepared for crowds and low vis with all of the students bouncing off the bottom of this low flow spring.

“Easy, interesting dive.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

Dive in a sinkhole--very pretty. It is quite a hike down and up, so if you have bad knees or worry about stairs, it can be a challenge.

“Blue Water & a Sense of Humor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012

Best time to go to the Grotto is during the week then you will get to really enjoy the beauty of the dive... Be ready with a sense of humor as Ed has one and 'cleared' the Grotto for us on Saturday... Thanks for a great time, again! Look forward to many more trips...

“Interesting change of pace for Open Water divers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

The Blue Grotto is a cavern/cave site. There are training platforms where you usually find several Open Water classes going on, there is a large cavern/basin area, and a short cave tube/chute with a guideline.

It's a good experience for those wanting to try a cave experience (with an experienced instructor along as guide) without paying a lot of money. Once you have gone through the chute once or twice, there's not much else to do except head for the diving bell where fresh air is pumped in and you can remove your regulator for a while.

You can easily spend 30-40 minutes underwater. Be aware that if there are lots of students there, odds are the cavern will be "silted" out because of inattentive students and instructors. There are pavilions where you can set up your gear (for an additional fee), showers & restrooms, and a hot water shower to knock off the cold from the dive (water temp is about 68 degrees), and stairs leading down to the grotto entry.
