I was introduced to Anthony's by a colleague at work. Ahead of time, they "warned" me it was unique and that I would either love or hate it. Definitely an odd introduction, but I trusted their opinion!
Their claim to fame is the use of a coal-fired oven to cook their pizzas and other items. It chars the crust and adds flavor. They call it "well done" pizza. If you are a fan of deep dish or more chewy crust pizza, this is not the place. Their crust is more of a thin crust with a crisp texture on the ends due to the cooking method. But if you like it - oh! You will not want pizza another way!
The menu is not elaborate - pizza with a choice of toppings and some specialty pies, plus a few appetizers, salads, and other entrees. For the appetizer, get the chicken wings - they are cooked in the coal-fired oven and served with carmelized onions and focaccia. I am not a Buffalo Wings fan, but I truly love the coal fired wings.
Also love the Italian Salad with a side of Gorgonzola. Dressing is good, salad is fresh, and a nice foil to the richness of the wings and pizza.
The pizzas - not a huge variety of toppings, but enjoy many of them. My favorite is the arugula pizza - a simple tomato and mozzarella pie topped with fresh arugula. The eggplant parm pizza is a close second, but other than the white pizza (just ok), everything else was excellent.
This is a place I take all out of town guests because it's unique, well-priced and just that good.
