“The Perfect B & B - Richard & Diane. Buckinghamshire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We have just spent 2 nights at this "Perfect B & B" The owners were friendly and extremely welcoming, on arrival we had a complementary Cream Tea which after a long journey was so nice, the room was spotlessly clean with lots of little touches that make all the difference, soft fluffy towels, Chocolates on the pillow, bowl of fresh fruit, very well stocked beverage tray with fresh milk in the fridge in the bedroom, and the room had a lovely clean fresh en-suite bathroom. There was a large choice for breakfast, Cereal, fruit, yogurts, fruit juice a full cooked breakfast or something lighter, including scrambled egg & smoked salmon if you prefer. We both had the full breakfast which was very well cooked and set us up well for the day. We would give this B & B our full recommendation and will definately stay again when in the area

It's all the thought that goes into the extra little touches that makes Tarka House an excellent B&B. Cannot recommend this B&B highly enough. A gem in the wonderful location of Weare Gifford. We had a very comfortable 3 night stay. Kathy and Paul think of everything and are friendly hosts.
The breakfasts were superb, the best we have ever had!

Have just returned from a two night stay at Tarka House and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived on Friday afternoon, we were made to feel very welcome and the cream tea on arrival was delicious. Kathy and Paul are both very friendly and helpful and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. The room we stayed in was very clean, attractively decorated and included some welcoming touches such as chocolate on the pillows and a mini fridge with fresh milk and bottled water. Breakfast in the morning was again delicious, with a varied menu and allowed Paul to put to use his excellent catering skills! The location is ideal for exploring the area and some of the views from the nearby woodland walk are amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, made all the more pleasant by hosts Kathy and Paul, who have worked hard to create a B & B a "cut above the rest"!

Excellent location for ferry departure for Lundy (if departing from Bideford) - Paul and Kathy offer a lift to and from Lundy Shore office and a safe place to park your car on their driveway, at no extra charge. Attractive and comfortable room, with nice extra touches, eg chocolate on pillow. Cream tea on arrival and fruit basket in the room are a bonus. Food delicious – Paul is a professional chef. Paul and Kathy make their guests extra welcome. Would definitely stay there again if in the area. Pleasant walking on footpaths and Tarka trail, and a bus service from end of the road to Bideford and Great Torrington.

Cannot recommend this B&B enough - 5 stars! Stayed for two nights in March while visiting friends in the area. The accommodation was first class. Extremely clean and comfortable with extra touches like chocs on the pillows, fruit basket in the room and fridge storing fresh milk & bottled water for the extremely well stocked refreshment tray. The bathroom was huge, towels very soft. Shower pressure superb with toiletries provided. A real hotel experience - in fact much better than some hotels that we've stayed in. The cream tea offered on arrival was delicious (according to husband) and a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious! The menu extremely varied; fresh fruit, yoghurts thro' freshly cooked full english. Yum! The hosts, Kathy & Paul were very friendly, welcoming & helpful. Weare Giffard appears very pretty - we didnt see much of it simply because we were elsewhere but a return in the summer is planned. The pub next door offers delicious food too - very good value and very tasty.
We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Book early to ensure you get a room! Diary was pretty full !

A five star Bed and Breakfast in a most attractive part of the Devon countryside but close enough to many interesting places. The Couple who run it Kathy and Paul work really hard to make their guest experience a special one- The rooms are clean and exceptionally well presented, the presence of a communal sitting dining area with a real log fire leading into a lovely garden made my wife and I feel totally at home. The breakfast was exceptional with freshly cooked and locally procured items- and then the full range of other breakfast choices including plenty of good tea and good coffee. Cost wise a stay here wont break the bank and should be considered as a base for exploring Devon and Cornwall.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms available-all of the same high standard-best to phone well in advance.

The village of Weare Giffard has a very pretty location, quiet and yet only 3 miles from Bideford. The B&B is situated close to the Village Pub where the food is more than adequate to sustain one if tired after a long day. The B&B is maintained to a very high standard and the hosts are charming. The rooms are nicely furnished, very clean and the bathrooms excellent. Breakfast was fantastic either Full English, Scrambled Egg with Smoked Salmon, Omelettes etc.and other choices (Vegetarian Full English too). Excellent value for money and thoroughly recommended.
