I would have rated this a 4 except:

1) Oceanfront is a stretch, we were pool-front
2) We had noisy neighbors
3) A fire-alarm went off the first night at 2 AM

The room and accomodations are above average, the staff is not as well-informed as they could be, but pleasant and very helpful. We did not settle for out first room on the 4th floor and ended up on 7, but not in a corner room.

The kitchen was nice but cutlery was sparse. It was nice to have a washer-dryer and would have liked to have known this ahead of time. The TV has a Bose surround-sound system hooked up to it, but I couldn't for the life of me get it to work. The bathroom was magnificient. Closets adequate, nice safe. Happy to have an iron, the board was undersized.

Turn-down service was intermiitant. Having to use the valet for the car was a pita. There was no oven in the kitchen (we like to cook.) The bed was fantastic and we liked the funky ceiling fans.

The room was well-appointed, it was difficult to use the alarm clock. There was a lot of construction noise and noise in general at night (we like to sleep with the sliding glass doors open and it was difficult with parties going on in the room next to us and from the hotel next door as well, lots of weddings.)

The pool was very nice, they have two. The 'childrens' pool has more shady spaces. There were too many children in the adults pool and hot tub. The pool staff is pleasant and helpful. The beach is of course, very nice, but the hotel throws a long shadow toward the beach in the AM. The water rough with frequent rip-tides

The concierge could be more helpful and there could be more than one computer in the lobby, it would be nice if the printer had worked.

Carmine's Deli is a gem. Look for it. We paddled a guided tour of the MacArthur State Park estuary...very nice.

Look for discounts, this place is expensive but they can be found.
We used Expedia.

“No Complaints at all!”

The Resort at Singer Island, Florida

Apr 23, 2008

We just returned from a long weekend at the Resort at Singer Island. We always try to stay at a starwood property when possible, as we collect starwood points. In the past, we have stayed at numerous starwood properties from coast to coast, mexico, latin america, the carribean and europe. This property was by far one of the nicest to date. The room was even better than the photos show. Everything was clean and in prisitine condition. We had originally booked a one bedroom ocean front room, but whn we arrived and the desk clerk saw that we had a one year old, he asked us if we would like to upgrade to a two bedroom ocean view. At first, I didn't want to sacrifice my ocean front room, but he suggested that I take a look at both rooms before I decided... how nice!

New carpet, granite countertops, washer and dryer, dishwasher and full fridge, microwave, full set of plates, glasses, silverware, you name it.

The bathrooms were also beautiful with separate tile shower w/ glass door, full size soaking tub and wash room.

Rudy, the bellman, took us to both rooms and there was virtually no difference in the view. In fact, the two bedroom ocean view with a wrap around porch gave two views: one with an ocean front, the other with an ocean and an intercoastal view, which was nice because you could watch the boats coming and going up the intercoastal waterway. Because of this, we opted to pay a little extra for a two bedroom suite. Trust me, it was worth every penny, especially since the baby had her own room.

Which brings me to another subject. Yes, there were lots of families with children ranging from three months old to teenagers. It is definetly a family atmopshere, which is great. However, there were also older men in speedos and women who blew their nose loudly. We opted to hang out with the families and somehow we all got along! :)

Both pools were great with lots of chairs and shade. The pool attendants were always nearby, moving umbrellas, bringing extra towels.

We ate breakfast once and then dinner once at the restaurant on site. It was very good and had a larger menu selection than I was expecting.

The hotel offers free internet access through a complementary computer in the lobby. The printer worked fine when I was there and I actually was able to download and print several work documents ... for free (very unstarwoody!)
The drinks at the bar and brought through beach service and pool service were great.

The beach was very nice and we rented a cabana on the beach, along with two chairs ($40) a day - also worth every penny. Joe, the beach attendant had ours set up and waiting on us each morning, along with free sand toys for the baby.

The gym was a lot larger than I was expecting, based on the reviews I had read here. At least 4 or 5 new treadmills, several bikes, elliptical machines. I used the equipment twice and both times, I had the place to myself.

I didn't use the Spa, but it looked lovely and the menu of services was extensive.

The bellboys were speedy and professional, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful and the overall resort was perfect! I can't think of one thing to complain about.

My husband and I spent a weekend at this resort while I was working in the area.

The hotel is beautiful. Our suite was very nice. Very well kept and comfy. There were quite a few problems with the lighting though. Switches that would turn nothing on and other switches that would turn on a light but turn off the telephone. Strange. Housekeeping did a great job and was very consistent in terms of turndown and clean up. Overall the staff from check-in on did a wonderful job.

We ate at the hotels fine dining restaurant 2 nights and had really wonderful meals. The manager is a peach and we felt very well taken care off.

Although the beach loungers are very comfortable are they really worth an extra 15-25 bucks a day and another 15 or so for an umbrella? The nickel and dime'ing of guests just seemed tacky. Raise your room prices a bit if you feel the upkeep of the beach amenities is costing too much.

There were tons of kids while we were there and they pretty much took over both pool areas. We were only here for 3 nights so it didn't bother us but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a couple or a group with out kids. A wonderful hotel for families though!

“We loved it”

The Resort at Singer Island, Florida

We recently returned from a stay at The Resort at Singer Island during a windswept April week. This was our first experience with a Starwood "Luxury Collection" property and it fit the billing.

It is is relatively compact beachfront highrise property tucked in along few mile stretch of similar properties on Singer Island. With the exception of a few public and state beaches, the entire Singer Island oceanfront is a series of highrise affairs.

We arrived on a midweek afternoon and were quickly in our room. I should note that, to my knowledge, all parking is valet parking at $20/day. I was told by the valet that there was no self parking option. Of course, tips are appreciated. That said, I never once had to wait a second for the car. Bell service and front desk were equally professional.

The rooms are luxurient and on a par with most Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons properties. We had a 2-BR suite. Each BR had an en-suite bath with walk-in shower and seperate tub. Towels were plush and Gilchrist & Soames bath products were generously provided. The baths were not jetted and the shower fixtures were a relatively simple affair. The beds are ultracomfortable. Each is fitted with a pillowtop mattress and high thread count linens.

Furnishings are chic and comfortable. Our unit had 3 flat panel TV's and 3 seperate Bose acoustics systems. There is a kitchen with full-size 'fridge with icemaker, dishwasher, microwave and sink. There is no oven. The unit includes dishware and silver, a toaster and a small drip coffeee maker with Starbucks supplied daily gratis. The counters are granite. Our balcony offered a north-looking view from the ocean to the intracoastal. I would definitely request a high floor on the north side.

The resort signature restaurant Solu offers pricy but quite good fare in a somewhat noisy open space. Service was knowledgeable and professional. The other restaurant options service the two pool areas. We had lunch daily at the one next to the "waterslide" pool. Mostly sandwiches, wraps and salads with a decent kid's menu as well. Figure about $20pp. As for the pools, there are two pool areas. The beachside pool features upholstered chaises and cabanas. It always seemed busy and "staked-out or pre-reserved". Just as well because our kids lived on the waterslide for the duration. This pool featured a more kid-friendly family sensibility and more abundant seating. Pool area staff were friendly and attentative. Neither pool is "too" large. The beachside operation appears to be a concession and a pricy one at that. Nothing is provided gratis. Two chairs and an umbrella will set you back about $50/day plus tip. Sad because it is a lovely beach and it was scarcely used by guests. Perhaps they will rethink how they run the beach "concession". There is a full service spa and the gym is well equipped with new equipment in good repair.

Off the resort, the business district (a few "blocks" south of The Resort at Singer Island) is something of an eyesore. Rundown and seedy come to mind. Other than the lure a few restaurants or a marina charter there is never a need to venture south of the resort. That said we had a pretty good meal at an Italian bistro called Max and Eddies which we found in Zagats before checking out the neighborhood. We also dined at Sailfish Marina which offered a stunning sunset view over the intracostal and seafood which was well prepared if not exceptional. Heading north on A1A amile or two takes you into the central Palm Beach Gardens shopping area along PGA boulevard. There you will find a Publix-Greenwise or a Publix market to stock the fridge. Publix also sells beer and wine. There are also a number of great dining options along PGA blvd. We dined one night at Spota's Oyster House. The Gardens Mall is also on PGA blvd. This mall boasts a Saks, Nordstoms and Bloomingdales as well as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and a number of other high end retailers.

We stayed at the Resort on Singer Island for four nights in April '08 to get a break from one of the harshest Canadian winters in memory.

We were sold by the photos of the suites with their themes of contemporary luxury and comfort. The suites did not disappoint us: we stayed in a 750+ sq.ft room, with separate living room, open concept kitchen, a bedroom with a large balcony, a large master bathroom, and even an in-suite washer-dryer.

The unit is beautifully decorated with contemporary furniture and accents, including black granite counters. It also allows for complete self-sufficiency, being equipped with a dishwasher, fridge and freezer, dishes, pots, pans, and cutlery. All are brand new, contemporary, and fresh. Two large flat-screen TV's (one in the bedroom, the other in the living room) complete the list of comforts.

We LOVED this room! It was ultra-quiet and super comfortable, perhaps because it so closely resembled out Toronto urban condo.... The view from the 10th floor was spectacular, with ocean vistas and the lush park beside the resort.

Our only "issue" is that this resort caters specifically to families with young children. This is not an issue other than at the pools, which were always quite crowded with 2 to 8 year olds. Even if most were generally well behaved, kids shall be kids, and the noise level reflects that. There are two pools, including a large and beautiful infinity pool and hot tub. The policy of the hotel allows access for children to both pools.

This is not a criticism of course, but if you're looking for a quiet, contemplative stay soaking up the sun while listening to the whisper of the wind beside an empty pool, you won't find it here.

We also enjoyed a great couples massage and pedicure at the excellent SPA. Service was excellent and consistent throughout.

Bottom line: the suites are gorgeous, the service is excellent, and the location is good, while the pool is crowded and caters to young children.
