I'm used to staying at Hamptons and lately I've also been staying at DoubleTrees...I am a longtime loyal fan and I refuse to stay anywhere else. This is my first time I've ever stayed at a Homewood Suites and it’s only because my normal places are booked solid. This Homewood Suites has the potential to be fabulous...the room decor is beautiful and the room layout is great. It's wonderful having a full kitchen in the room. And the bed is so comfy with the best poofy feather/down pillows - and LOTS of them!
However, starting with my arrival, my stay has been a disaster. I got there an hour and a half early - which has never been a problem at Hampton or DoubleTree. After the completely cheerless/non-smiling woman looked me up in the computer, I was told my room wasn't ready yet and to come back at 3:00 (normal check-in time). When I returned, the male employee at the desk was occupied with two men. I wasn't even acknowledged when I got there by the employee. Usually I'm at least given a friendly smile and a quick assurance that they'll be with me in a second. I stood there for ten minutes (apparently wearing my invisibility cloak) waiting.
So, when it's finally my turn, the guy tells me that I don't have a reservation…a reservation that had been made and confirmed days ago! He checked under my name and under my friend's name several times and kept repeating that there was no reservation. I told him that was weird because I had obviously had a reservation an hour and a half earlier when the woman told me I had to come back because my room wasn't ready....AFTER she had looked me up in the computer! He said, "What woman?" like he didn't believe I had talked to her! Then he just looked at me and said, "I'm sorry. I can't help you. You don't have a reservation." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! So I asked him if I could use the hotel’s wireless so I could show him my reservation confirmation that was in my email on my laptop. I didn't print it out because I have never, ever had a problem with checking in at a Hampton or a DoubleTree. For that matter, I've never, EVER run into such cold and unhelpful employees...at any hotel I've stayed at, anywhere in the world. This was a first.
After finally “finding” my reservation I went up to the room. At this point I REALLY had to go to the bathroom (too much iced tea) and headed there first. In my haste I accidentally lifted both the lid and the seat and was greeted with disgusting hairs stuck to the rim of the toilet along with other unpleasantness. There was another one on the actual seat. I immediately called down and told them I needed housekeeping. At first she insisted, “I don’t see any hairs, ma’am!” There was NO WAY POSSIBLE to miss the short black curly hairs and dried urine. After I told her to actually LOOK she said, “Oh, okay.” After that she became nicer.
While she was cleaning the toilet I found out that there was no guide to the television channels and I asked her about it. She said they don’t provide anything but the HBO guide. Okay. That’s odd because EVERY hotel I’ve ever stayed in has a guide. Figuring it might be on the television, I looked and couldn’t find it. So I called the desk and asked what channel on the television has the guide. He said there isn’t one. I told him there HAS to be a guide somewhere and he told me there was one in the green “welcome” book. I hung up and of course there wasn’t one so I had to call back and was treated like I was a total pain in the butt. But at least I got the guide. I have NEVER met such rude and unhelpful hotel employees!
The worst part is that dealing with these employees is so unpleasant that when I discovered that the shower hadn’t been cleaned either and there were more hairs on the floor that are definitely NOT mine, I considered cleaning it myself. I actually have Clorox wipes in my car. BUT I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO CLEAN IT MYSELF!!! Yet I also don’t want to deal with any more unpleasant and rude employees…especially since I have a lot of paperwork to do today and I do not want interrupted. So I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m just very, VERY disappointed and unhappy. What a hassle and unpleasant experience this has been. I don't even want to take a shower.
Besides the horrible employees and the appalling cleaning job by housekeeping, my only other complaint is that the connecting door between my room and the one next door might as well not be there. The next door neighbors could easily be right here in the suite with me. I can hear every word they say and I am very thankful that I didn’t have to listen to anything else going on over there last night. The sound travels so easily that you can clearly hear them open a plastic covered something-or-other. I was awakened bright and early by them making coffee in the kitchen this morning…6 a.m. And I had earplugs in.
I don’t like it here. :(
P.S. They offer free dinners here! Monday through Thursday! Of course, I'm here on a Saturday.
