Small but cozy zoo. Beautifully landscaped and very cool mayan section. It's shady, you dont have to walk so far in between the animals like Miami Metro Zoo. Yeah so they dont have elephants, but the otter tank was way cooler. We were there when they had the Winter in July festival, one weekend a year they have 40 tons of real snow for the kids to go crazy in. It was cool, my kids (grown up on a tropical island) never had touched or seen real snow.

I was able to spend about 3hrs here on a monday morning. What I noticed first was the lush greenery which covered many of the walkways. Many of the anmilas were behind plexi or fences, so clean pics were hard to get. What I assume was the newer section was awsome though. The backdrops looked on par with Disney, as I wandered through Aztec ruins. This section was a little more open and they had many animals I hadnt seen before. The tiger habitat was interesting because even though the tiger was behind a chainlink fence, the walkway was covered by fog machines which made the journey a little like indiana jones. The prarie dog habitat was also worth mentioning with many baby prarie dogs to watch play. It was also notable that the tigers were probably the largest beasts there.

We visited the PB Zoo on 2 occasions, one was years ago & one was 2 days ago! My 2 kids, ages 5 & 2 had a great time seeing the animals. The special effects at the zoo (especially in the tiger's den) were great with fog pouring out from the rocks in the walkway. The kids love the zoo's merry go round & the inteactive water fountain. Don't forget to bring a bathing suit & sunscreen for the fountain - a must see at the end of the time spent at the zoo! Food is fair, hotdogs, burgers, normal zoo type food. Packing a lunch might be a better idea.

The Palm Beach Zoo is a gem of an oasis within the hub-bub of metro Palm Beach County. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and knowledgable and the animal exhibits were truly top-quality habitats. The zoo has focused mainly on South America and has really done a phenomenol job featuring so many animals. The wildlife carousel was absolutely gorgeous, the Florida "cracker" house lent such a unique flavor to the Florida exhibit, the Mayan area was without a doubt one of the most unique zoo areas we have ever seen. Half-way through our visit we found ourselves at an Amazon Marketplace which had a very cool gift shop (lots of international items and great jewelry) as well as a cafe/restaurant that provided a welcome cool-down and rest spot...not to mention a wonderful lunch (casual and kid-friendly). Our visit continued with a stroll though an Asian rainforest where we found a Bengal tiger. The rest of our walk through the zoo was smile after smile, we were able to be up front and superclose with many different primates, prarie dogs, kangaroos, macaws, and many more. The plants, trees, and flowers were wonderful, so many different varieties...we felt we were at a botanical garden. I can't forget to mention the amazing play fountain in the center of the zoo, our children did not want to leave! Our visit ended in the gift store of course where we found quality toys (think educational store and name brands) and fun souveniers. We enjoyed ourselves so much we applied our ticket prices from the day towards a family membership. I plan on taking the kids all the time, it really was relaxing and fun.

“Rude and Unpleasant”

Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park

As stated in earlier reviews, this zoo is small which is not always a bad thing. With that smaller size though, you might expect what they offer to be of real quality. This is not the case with the Palm Beach Zoo.

First, and foremost, is the very poor attitude of the employees. I am a member of an AZA zoo in Ohio, which gives free reciprical admissions to other zoos around the country. We have used this benefit many times around the country with much success and enjoyment. I called the zoo in the morning to see if they offered free admissions to AZA members, and was assured that they did.

After driving 30 minutes to the zoo, the very rude employee at the ticket window informs me that they will only honor 50% off on admissions, and when I explain about the recent phone call she talks to the operator who lied and said that she told me it was only a 50% discount. Racking this all up to a mistake we agree to pay the admission stated by the ticket window attendant. When I get my credit card receipt to sign, the price on it is now even higher--though the woman has not pointed this fact out to me. When I inquire I was told, again quite rudely, that she had made a mistake and calculated the price based on a senior discount which we do not qualify for. When I refused to sign the credit card statement with the higher charge I was told that I had to! What nerve (I wrote void and handed it back to her loud objections).

Long story short we asked to speak to the manager who as not willing to help us in any way, and never apologized for the series of mistakes, lies, and rudeness. She also told us that no reciprocal zoos give free admissions which, from much personal experience, I know to be untrue. What can they be thinking?

Anyhow, if you go be very careful about what you are charged. Better yet, save your money, because this zoo is really unimpressive and small inside. With the exception of a few animals and interesting "ruins" in the Mayan section, it has little of quality or diversity to offer. Add to that very poor customer service and you have a real recipe for disappointement. Go instead next door to the Palm Beach Science Center which is also small, but full of interesting exhibits, and wonderful, enthusiastic workers and volunteers. The kids will love it, and you will too.
