I've been unlucky enough to get an insiders view of the Palm Beach Zoo. I did an internship here and got to see how things went behind the scenes. ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. Disgusting. If people knew what their money was going to, they would never ever agree to pay the admission price. Behind the scenes consists of several trailers, which have all seen better days. The offices and kitchen are all made up of trailers, and are filthy beyond belief!! Food sits out for hours on end before finally being fed to the animals. The exhibits that are hidden from the public are ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. They were not made properly & and are filthy. The staff does not clean thoroughly. I was yelled at when I took too long to clean exhibits because I was actually scrubbing & disinfecting things around the exhibit!!! Feces if simply spread around with a hose, not picked up and properly disposed of. The staff is very lazy & if they don't feel like putting on a full show (Wings Over Water & Wild Things) for their guests-- they won't. They don't train their animals properly, and give them little to no attention. Then get upset when the animal doesn't perform as it is supposed to. They get plenty os USDA violations each year, and instead of fixing the problems, they just shut whatever it was down, and leave it to rot.
Oh, and I got food poisoning from the cafe.
Basically this zoo is an awful place to give your money to. It may look alright to the average visitor, but I assure you-- you would be disgusted if you saw the things that went on behind the scenes.
The best part of this zoo is the bathrooms. I like the atmosphere in there. The music is nice & the walls are painted nice! Oh-- and by bathrooms I mean the public restrooms. The staff restrooms are also atrocious.
