“Great location, great service, bad infrastructure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

This place has the potential to be a great one, however they need to put money on it. I arrived here after a terrible experience in another one. The place look like one of these historical houses that have never been renewed. The lobby is fine, the guy at the front desk is VERY nice, he takes care of everything you tell him and there is this blonde girl who does the cleaning that is also very nice. The room is small but has fridge and microwave. The sink is outside of the bathroom which i found strange but apparently long time ago that was a normal layout. I did have one huge complaint because the bathroom has a communicating door with the room next to you and one day i spent the night out and the next day when i arrived for some reason the lock was broken, like someone from the room next door was trying to get into the room. I told the hotel that and they did all possible to change me to a different room that same night which was something i really appreciated.
For a one or two nights stay the place is fine, not fancy at all but provides shelter if that's all you need. Location is great, a couple of blocks from cityplace and Clematis street, the place is cheap and the service from the people working there is really good.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the other side of the Backyard cafe. They have music everyday till 10:00pm.

Have stayed there several times & enjoyed the comfort. Definitely shows a lot of the historical qualities, keeping the old fashion look. Friendly staff made us feel at home.
Location is very convenient.

We only stayed at west palm beach because we had been driving a long time.We didnt like it much because most of the night life was in a modern shopping mall although we found a couple of nice bars on the main st.A local described the hotel as having been a "rooming house and thats what it felt like. It was clean enough and the furniture etc had a certain charm but its only suitable for one night.

I was attracted to this hotel by the website and its proximity to CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach. It looked like an interesting boutique hotel with retro decor. In actuality, the hotel turned out to be a far cry from that. Many of the rooms share a shower. The more expensive rooms, $80, have a private bath. The rooms are very shabby and small. The king sized beds (very low quality) take up practically the entire room. I had to step up into my shower. They also stick in a large refrigerator and a microwave. It's obvious that this hotel is for people who need a place to stay long term as I overheard the much cheaper rates they offer to those clients staying for a week ($200/week). As a result, this hotel doesn't have a "vacation" ambiance but rather a skid row feel. There's rarely anyone at the desk. There was a worker always lingering in the lobby in a tank top.

The carpet was dirty throughout the hotel. There are no phones in the room (not a big deal but another indication of the transient nature of the hotel.) Though they publicize their wireless access in the rooms, it didn't work in my room.

Contrast this with the B&B next door, the Hibiscus House, where the low season rates are only a bit more than Hotel Evernia. I could hear and see from my window residents who obviously were enjoying their stays. I saw staff at the Hibiscus working to make their stays comfortable, not hanging out watching TV burning the hours away until dawn brings a new day. What's worse is that I was given a room which allowed me to hear and see what I missing out on.

It's a shame. This hotel could be a very nice and convenient destination but this place is obviously a hold out from a time when down town WPB was home to transients. The owners should embrace a new day with CityPlace just around the corner and the Clematis district down the street. If they don't have the money, sell it to someone who does. The hotel has nice bones and a great location, it could be so much more.
