“Old Florida charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Keep in mind this is not the Ritz Carlton it is a clean, quite, friendly, old school motel/ lodge. Price for an overnight stay was fair. Staff was pleasant. There are no phones in the rooms,no bell boys,no room service, but a lot of great atmosphere to just relax and recharge from the hustle and bustle of everyday big city life. We have stayed here a few times this year and as we are leaving we find ourselves trying to figure out how soon the next time we can get back is.

Room Tip: There is no pool survey would not let you back out of option.Rating is based on other non chain lodg...

Thanks for your review. The "Old Florida" feel is what we think makes Andersen's Lodge so special. This is hard to find in many places, and we feel like we have one of the best views on the St. Johns, of course we are biased. Glad you found it so relaxing and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We had a New Year's get together with all of our friends here and it was a blast. We are talking about doing it again this year too!! Showers need some work, and windows really need blinds, we taped trash bags up so the people working in the restaurant couldn't look in our room.

Thanks for your honest review. We bought Andersen's Lodge in March 2013. We have hung up some beautiful curtains, so there will be no need to hang up trash bags when you come again. This was a problem we addressed as soon as we were able. I hope you can come and celebrate New Years again. Waters Edge Pub & Grill are now open, so this should improve your stay even more.

Anderson's Lodge is a true hidden gem in Welaka. It's very peaceful and quiet as it sits right on the St Johns River. The decks overlooking the river are so nice to sit on at night to watch the sun go down. The rooms are very quaint and cozy. No, it's not luxurious, but that's not what they are going for. It's clean with comfy beds and nice linens. Lots of nice towels and washcloths available for you in the bathroom. Rustic style cabins set back under tall oak trees with beautiful moss hanging off trees. The Pub and restaurant are awesome for dinner or just kicking back and playing pool and having a few drinks. My only recommendation would be to have enough coffee for the amount of days a person is staying in the room and maybe an iron and ironing board. I will always stay at Anderson's Lodge when I come to visit.

Room Tip: My favorite room is the one closest to the river.

Julie, please don't be shy to ask for more coffee and supplies. Marsha will be happy to help you or any of the staff at the Pub or Grill. An iron and ironing board are something we will look into, but next time you stay, please ask Marsha if you could use the Lodges iron and ironing board - we will be happy to loan it to you during your stay.

My fiance and I loved the setting on the river. Our room with the deck at riverside was awesome. I've never slept better - the bed was super comfortable. The room was great, but a few additions would make it awesome.

No place in the shower for your stuff - I had the shampoo and the soap on the floor and the towel was across the room. Oh, and the windows need blinds!

Room Tip: I recommend the riverview king room. Private deck overlooking the St. John was fabulous.

Hi Hope, please see my other comment about curtains on the windows I hope this will fit your needs the next time you come and stay. We will work on putting something in the showers for all your shower goodies, and hopefully get a towel rack closer to your shower!

If you enjoy the rustic outdoors, especially boating, river life, and fishing, you might enjoy this Lodge. It's not luxurious by any stretch but you will find the nature-centric Old Florida feeling the owners advertise. When I visited I found the guest room clean and serviceable, and the staff at both Lodge and restaurant friendly and welcoming. Convenient to the national forest, Lake George, and reasonably close (1-2 hours) to Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Palatka, Ocala, and other northeast Florida locations. Not much for small kids to do on site (that is, I don't remember a pool or playground) but there is stuff to do in the surrounding area.

Room Tip: One or two of the rooms are in a little duplex cabin overlooking the river, I'd say those are th...

It's better than it once was. But, still needs improvement. The bathrooms are beyond outdated, shower felt like a dog peeing on your back, and the sink was falling off the wall. I have stayed here many times over the years and they have definitely made some huge improvements. Still have some room to go. However, the beds were nice and comfortable, nice TV's and the new restaurant& bar are decent. People were very friendly and accommodating.

Hi, thanks for your review. We have owned Andersen's Lodge since March 2013. We are aware that the bathrooms need some work, and hopefully we will be able to get to them sometime next year.

we just stayed at Andersen's Lodge last weekend it was a wonderful experience . They have every thing you need in one convenient spot from the Grill where we ate out of this world steak to the casual atmosphere of the pub that overlooked the Saint Johns river . It was most relaxing and I would suggest other people look at this option for your stay We even brought the kids and they had a big bonfire out back which reminded us of home, and the kids caught some sort of fish never seen that type before. We really enjoyed are stay and look forward to coming back.
