“Loved the Holiday Inn Oceanside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2007

The staff at Holiday Inn were very kind and helpful. Aurora at the front desk was very helpful on the phone and very pleasant to meet when we got there she even remembered talking to me on the phone. Eventhough they were very crowded she managed to find me an oceanfront view. Hint - If you are a priority club member with Holiday Inn you can get a free hot breakfast you can order from a limited menu. We also received a free glass of wine or beer at Mulligans there cozy beachfront restaurant.

The rooms were very clean and had a small frig with two small complimentary bottles of water. It had a iron and ironing board, hair dryer and a robe in the bathroom. The pool was nice and toasty warm and your literally right on the beach. Across the street from the hotel are some classy shops which seem to cover about a block or two. It seems to be located in quiet upscale area. Along the beach it seems like they roll in the streets a 10 pm it is very quiet, except for Mulligans the bar restaurant was busy and hopping with live music and the food was reasonable and good.
If your willing to drive west there are other things to do such as shopping at the Vero Beach Outlets or the Indian River Mall.

  • Liked — Convenient right on the beach steps away to the ocean! Convenient restaurant bar and reasonable.
  • Disliked — Because it was spring break it was pricey around $200 but all hotels were expensive.

We loved this hotel! The staff was warm, welcoming and friendly from the front desk at arrival, to my housekeeper who did a great job cleaning our room. We had stayed at this hotel before - about a year ago, and this time we found it much better. The new management of the hotel has made quite a few improvements including more attention to detail, lush landscaping, nice robes, new cucumber/melon shampoos and soap, and better pool towels. The restaurant had updated their menu and now have lobster, shrimp and crab - I loved the lobster ravioli! Even the staff seemed friendlier than last time - and the new people seem to know their job and took alot of time helping us find things to do and fun places to eat. This hotel is older, but they are doing a great job keeping it clean and modern.

What is up with over charging customers who do not smoke? And in a state that doesn't allow smoking in restaurants.
This is ridiculous!!

This Holiday Inn has got to be one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The customer service was definitely the worst and management was combative at best. If you check in and there is a 30-something African-American female with short hair and a bad attitude who seems to enjoy talking on her phone more than helping you working the front desk, then be prepared to have to calmly and slowly tolerate a complete imbecile. I stayed there from Friday, June 9th to Monday, June 12th, 2006. There were no replacement towels (or any other supplies) delivered on Saturday or Sunday. I had to ask twice on Sat. and five times on Sun. and the front desk management treated my requests like they were an inconvenience instead of simply getting their employees to provide what they were paid to do. Each time I was told they were "working on it." Well, working on it for them obviously meant a wait of more than four hours on Sunday. The cleanliness was about what you'd expect from a chain hotel, but I did kill two cockroaches (one inside, the other just outside my door) and a spider while I was there (though the sand fleas in the bed that bit my legs were probably my fault). Expect an oily pool with lots of little bugs floating around the edges because they obviously don't clean the traps that often. And yes you will feel a hot shower turn cold if someone else in the hotel flushes a toilet. The beach is thin, maybe thirty yards wide at high tide and filled with a rank smelling brown seaweed that leaves black tar on anything it touches so definitely avoid that. That said, I do have to compliment their restaurant, Mulligan's. Their food and service was outstanding... which leads me to believe it is probably run completely separate from the hotel side of the operation.

I won a 5 night charity auction for the Holiday Inn in Vero Beach and we called to see if we could use it Spring Break (big mistake). Because we have family in Vero and because we usually stay at Disney Vero, we assumed that the newly refurbished Holiday Inn would be up to par with other Holiday Inn's...IT WASN'T.

First, we asked for a second floor hotel room (knowing that the first floors got flooded by the hurricanes)...and we had to wait 24 hours to get it even though we reserved one.

Secondly, the children woke up screaming in the night because bugs were biting them...it turns out that the grill on the AC was loose and the unit was full of bugs...but we couldn't sleep after that because I wasn't sure if it was spiders or mosquitos or sanfleas or what was biting the children.

Thirdly the hotel front desk was very un-apologetic and even tried to tell us that citrus canker bugs were what were swarming us...(there is no such thing as a citrus canker bug)...

Anyhow, for the same amount of $$$, go to Disney Vero for a nice room on the ocean nearby. A lot of the other hotels are still dark, dingy and small...especially for what they are charging.

Stay away from the first floor units...

I mentioned my experiences in this hotel in my review of another, but I'll repeat the theme here for the benefit of TripAdvisor readers.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn because it was all we could find in Vero, meaning that it is the only 'chain' hotel. We thought it was the biggest waste of beachfront property we'd seen: the only way to see the beach was to pay $400 a night, as not even the pool area or grounds had a view. $400 for the Holiday Inn is obscene.

Thankfully we ventured next door to the Reef Ocean resort, where an oceanfront suite was HALF the H.I.'s price, and the room was brand new and neat as a pin in 2005 (the Reef rennovated after the hurricane, whereas the Holiday Inn apparently painted over its damaged, moldy rooms).

Best of all, the Reef, being such a well-kept secret, was mostly empty when the Holiday Inn was bursting at the seams full! If you want a quiet vacation in a peaceful oceanfront town, avoid the crowds here and check in next door.

We accidentally left a teddy bear on the bed. This bear had been with us for 20 years (given by a father who has passed away). We called the same day to ask if they had found it. The front desk who has no access to lost and found assured us that people leave such items all the time, and it would likely be with lost and found. In the morning, we called housekeeping who has access to lost and found. They remembered exactly and told us they THREW THE BEAR AWAY, and the dumpster was emptied the night before!!!
The room was less than mediocre and the internet did not work. Of all Holiday Inns, it's one of the bad ones even without the bear incident. Reluctantly at the time, we had to stay there due to an emergency, and WILL NEVER AGAIN!! We have received phone calls from hotels about lesser itmes left behind.
