We have been to Kilted Mermaid twice and sent a friend with hubby once, so my review is based on 3 experiences. Food is quite good, prices are good, beer selection is great, and place is just "cool". Reminds me of a place in Greenwich Village-NYC. That said, the service is not "cool".
The owner with the kilt, is excellent. Smiles, talks to you, helps clear when needed, etc. The mermaid owner, (redhead) seems nice enough, but really does not have a grasp of the service industry. Seems to miss a beat as she walks through the dining area and asks things like, "oh, have you been served?" when we have been sitting in front of her for 5 minutes.
The turn off for us and our friend is the server (we think is named Stacy). You can't miss her as she is very tall, attractive, and well built. Was wearing flip flops so she clumped around. Has NO personality at all and treats you like you are bothering her, so service sucked. She is the reason our friends will never come back to the place-her lack of personality and service.
We had an Entertainment coupon which she proceeded to take out of my hand and say, "yeah, yeah, I know, buy one, get one free"...we ordered 2 fondues clearly and she ordered 1 of the 2 wrong. I guess we annoyed her? The Mermaid did fix it by giving us the right one, so their loss as we ended up with 3 fondues for the price of one. And we do love their fondues. But our server proceeded to talk about us to the kilt owner, like it was our fault. You know, whisper in his ear, and then both look at our table, knowingly. When it came time for the check, we waited on that even though the place was not busy on a Wed. night. No thanks for coming, Hope to see you again from her. The owner with the kilt, needs to spread his good karma to all that work there. He understands that you must be nice to people and speak to them with a smile.
Have very mixed feelings about the place due to the one server.
