Awful greasy food with inattentive wait staff. Don't both with this restaurant unless you're over 80 and can't taste!

This is my third season playing live music at Althea's. I don't often eat here because I'm working. But I DO get to see every patron before and after their meal and many during their meal. The vast majority are very happy with the food the service and the value. I have taken my family from out of town there on many occasions and am delighted to please everybody's diverse tastes and dietary needs. My local fans who come to see me are attracted by the fact that they can hear me and get a good meal that will not overwhelm their dining budget. They also rave about their breakfast and Sunday brunch.

This morning I had the misfortune of eating breakfast at Althea's in Venice, FL. I have eaten there many times and the food and service were usually good. Today, however, I had to wait a long time for the food even though the restaurant was over half empty. The service was slow. The eggs and sausage were cold and the hash browns were black as coal and cold. They were more like potato chips than hash browns. When my husband wanted a second cup of tea there was an extra charge, yet there was no extra charge for a second cup of coffee. Tea bags are about .03 a piece. A box of tea bags is cheaper than a pound of coffee. So why was my husband being charged for something which cost the restaurant little. The charge for the second cup of tea was duly noted, apparently, on the menu. However, why the extra charge for a .03 cup of tea? Bring you own tea bags if you want more than one cup of tea. Be careful, they may charge you for the second cup of hot water.
